Um this song is about escaping domestic violence.
    Nothing about America.
    Happy 4th of July.

You know what would have been a nice touch is to overlay Donald Trump in place of Jack Nicholson. LOL. You could post it to Truth Social and Trump would then retweet it no problem.

Why did you necrobump a thread that is a quarter-century old?

Also, I hate the term semiquincentennial. I would much prefer quarter-millennial. For one, semiquincentennial isn't even recognized as a word by the spellchecker. For two, semiquincentennial seems like some kind of nerd-flex that you can compose a Latin term whereas the emphasis of quarter-millennial is on the longevity of our Republic that we can even be talking about millennia here.

I didn't know this "word" was a thing until yesterday. It's crap.

Because it's good housekeeping and information continuity to use the search function to continue threads. I'll die on this hill.

Obviously you will not be persuaded. But, I don't think it is good housekeeping to bump threads from 2002. Independence Day of 2002 is not really the same subject as Independence Day 2026. And almost none of the posters among the 2002 entries are even users on this site anymore. The OP was DiSeAsEd back in 2002, so who knows if she is even still alive now. Let the past be in the past. :)

It wouldn't be the 'past' if people continued the thread. It would be a fun nostalgia thread every year. Feliz Navidad, compadre.

The best thing about July 4th nowadays is watching the social media videos of low-IQ individuals nearly killing themselves (and unfortunately, others). I can't tell if it's always been this wild or people are just getting wilder and dumber. Nowadays I just stay inside. I'll watch fireworks on tv or something. Hell, this year I didn't even do that - I just prayed my house would survive. :D

This is a new entry into the "they're gonna kill themselves and us" entry. I honestly think this may be one of the best ones of all time. Please don't tell me it's AI :

    Another good one :

But this may still be the best (although that first one above may have supplanted it... tough one) :
