I think a big part of why Christopher Nolan movies do so well is how ridiculously good his team is at cutting trailers, and their marketing strategy.

The best strategy was Inception. Like nobody knew what that movie was about but anyone who came in contact remotely with their marketing was like… whatever that is, I NEED to go see it. Especially on the biggest screen I can find.

I think too the latest Batman movie did that too with the Something in the Way emo Batman trailers. Like I know we’ve seen too much Batman over the past 30 years, but this one really is for you emo 90’s kids.

i say that, but then commented on Nolan’s amazing traditional marketing approach. That being said, even his traditional approach still gets a ton of buzz on TikTok and YouTube.

Maybe not in the same way that something like Backrooms does, but you do some traditional things in such a great way that in this day and age it can still translate to the social media machine.

James Gunn’s DCU kind of made in a way where it’s style, character choices, etc. just doesn’t have that.

The trailers and marketing tell you right away what you are getting… James Gunn comic book movie #45 (found family narrative, loser but fun loser characters, colorful but washed out look, lots of gci, and a whole hell of a lot of needle drops).

Marketing a James Gunn comic universe is always going to be a challenge because the product is almost certainly going to look repetitive on its face even if there is some fun things people are consistently drawn to.

I’m rooting for Gunn with DC but I have a hard time seeing a much longer leash unless he can figure a way to cut his budgets like in half. Even then David Ellison at some point really soon is going to butt in and want to mandate his own DCU. That’s inevitable at this point regardless of how good the next Gunn Superman movie is.

I know personally, the way the trailers were showing Supergirl as a slushed prick didn't appeal to me, don't care if Sweeney had played it looks wise, just a turn off for me the direction they took the movie for that specific character. I watch Superman/Supergirl/Wonderwoman/etc. because they embody certain values, and Deadpool and the like for other qualities. The movie trailers didn't fit the character as I know it.

The Clayface movie in October had a great teaser trailer. More buzz about a lesser known Batman villain.
