Saying he's a negative player is silly, but saying he's a positive asset in terms of value vs cap hit is just as silly

Been saying this from the beginning:
JB was whining and pressuring them to offer the crazy extension.
Celtics had no intention of doing so, which was smart.
JB complaining publicly about "lack of respect" made it difficult on the Celtics to the point they couldn't keep him.
Being under duress collapsed the Celtics leverage in trade negotiations.
They end up trading JB for some paper clips, a couple rubber bands and a pack of chewing gum.
Then anonymous insiders start grotesquely piling on JB because he's made himself an easy target, which is his own fault.

JB should be the most motivated he's ever been, but he's on a new team with a different coach and several incumbent players with their own personal agendas. It's gonna be a long season.

he traded for 2 years of Paul George making over 54 mil/yr

he missed out on Giannis because of Hugo Gonzales

Is the plan to just waste the next 2 seasons having Tatum play with Paul George and a bunch of guys?

Brad Stevens has been doing nothing but dismantling the team the past few seasons then wants to talk about how they can’t win

with the way they’re talking about Jaylen Brown, I have no idea how they managed to win 56 games with a negative player who’s not even top 50 in the league while Tatum was out most of the year

PG's contract is more toxic than JB's in terms of value, except that Boston can get out of it one year sooner. It's almost like the Westbrook-Wall trade, poison for poison.

Can someone explain why the NBA cap won't increase 10% each year during the new TV deal?

they're supposedly building "to win" and not to save money. So they don't care about PG's contract this year. What they care to do is to build depth and to keep winning culture, even if it means to have a temporarily set back in regular season record. Without the trade, they'd have dysfunctional locker room because certifiably outspoken Brown will be demanding respect and to be # 1 option on offense and to have his extension contract secured - all of the things that their front office supposedly doesn't want to do given the cap situation. They want it to be Tatum's team and they can't afford 70% of cap tied to 2 players where one of them already had an Achille's injury and the other one is going to be 30 soon.

    Seems reasonable enough.

If the market is not there for Jaylen Brown, they have to weight dysfunction vs waiting for the market value of JB to improve despite JB being vocally annoyed at his treatment this offseason.

As far as contracts go, PG was able to play in playoffs and score at 60% TS% this offseason. It was higher than Brown's 55%. In fact, George had higher PER during that series than Brown. His contract is still toxic but if they're able to manage his minutes, maybe it's worth 1 FRP to offload making Jaylen Brown's contract be worth 1 FRP. It's not like Boston traded them in the middle of the night like Doncic. We could've probably had him for 1 FRP + DFS +FVV
