This is a very solid contract. It is discounted for a player of his caliber, because of injury concerns. Tari is a very good player, but has some shortcomings, thus the middlin type of contract. You can scream bloody murder at Stone for some of his decisions, but this isn’t one of them.

Great deal. To those asking about letting him go on the market before matching...

1.) You couldn't get much below $16M AAV because the NT-MLE is roughly $15M, which many teams have.

2.) Beyond that, if the market was that poor, the bigger risk was Tari taking the $8M QO and leaving for no compensation as an unrestricted FA next summer... all while (likely) having a subpar season due to the contract hanging over him. It was pretty clear that was a factor in last season's performance, and people inside the building thought the same. He'd also have had a no-trade clause, if he signed the QO.

As far as injuries, the one clear positive for Tari last season was that he didn't (at least to our knowledge) have any issues with his left leg. Chronic injuries are a thing, chronically injury prone people (i.e. to random injuries) usually aren't. The oblique strain in the first month was just one of those flukey things that can happen to anyone, got hit in the wrong spot. If not for that, he plays 75-ish games.

You'll always have to watch that leg, but outside of that, I don't see any reason for medical pessimism. Otherwise, he's the same guy that played all 82 as a rookie.

They both started podcast and telling everyone how good they used to be in college and they made it. No dog left in them. Reed too, he shifted his focus to baking European pastries.

Ime and Stone have created this culture. You can be a 0.5 dimensional player and get paid max money for it.

Optimistic, but fair read of the situation.

I have lots of gripes about Stone, but giving Tari 1 year longer, and 2 mil per year more than I am comfortable with isn't the end all be all. At least Tari is a likable guy who is easy to root for. Even if he's maddingly frustrating for long stretches of the season.

If Tari can stay healthy, and steadily improve consistency of that 3 point shot, there's no reason to believe he won't hold his value as a valuable 3&D role player versatile wing. Something the league NEVER undervalues.

This is small potatoes in comparison to the conundrum of having a team designed to just dump the ball to Sengun or KD at half court, and watch them fumble their way into a play with 6 seconds left on the clock. The Tari contract... while not ideal is NOTHING compared to the delusion of what they've constructed in terms of an offensive engine to build an NBA team around... but I digress.

Didn't see this until late last night, but voted "Yes" for the following reasons.

    - Did not want to lose Tari for nothing, he has value to the team and as a potential trade chip.

    - Tari in year 1/2 was one of my favs raw energy and hustle that could ignite comebacks and rallies. I hope the entitled and mopey attitude evaporate and he returns to that fun-loving stick of dynamite we all love.

    - He's a great off the bench spark and should return to that role. His off-rebounding skills and junkyard dawg grit gives that second group an edge (w/ Adams) we need to lean into this year.

    - Finally, if he doesn't shake off whatever is bothering him and embrace the security $81M guaranteed delivers to him and Momster, then his contract is certainly tradeable and how it's structured should bring back more value. Only concern here is his injury history, he's still young, so maybe better training, diet, rest, etc. can minimize his down time.

In many ways, Tari's not the same guy that played 82 as a rookie. He's got the limitations placed on him as a result of the leg.(BtoB issues, load management) And, much larger downside risk than most of losing his career to injury.
Tari's attitude has left a lot to be desired during the whole contract thing. Very unprofessional.
Hopefully he can put the pouting behind, and let it flow out there.
He really impacts W&L's when right. Mentally and physically.
Especially, with the addition of the J.

I'm in the camp of those that believe he needs to be dealt eventually. I would have done it at last years deadline. But, Stone never sells high.

Please do some research before making comments like this. Stone hasn’t done a trade deadline deal for 7 straight years. He’s awful and will continue the streak in year 8 of his pathetic tenure as the lawyer/GM of the team. There is simply no accountability from this organization. Poorly run business.

One thing about Rafael Stone. He knows how not to overpay players, amiright?

Probably the one thing Tilman loves about him. "Cut and quarter those lemons, Rafael. Cut.....and quarter."

Right now Amen Thompson talking to his agent: "F******************ck."

I think it's a great deal. Dude loves to ball. Now that the contract is over, he can focus on balling.

I think Amen calls his bluff, but I hope I’m wrong and he takes a Sengun like contract. If Amen gets to RFA every team in the league will be making room for him.

Don’t forget the altercation he had with Steven Adams where Adams had to grab him. He was starting to become a cancer.

    Maybe I'm in the minority.

    I'm glad Tari is staying.

Also a great deal for the Rockets.
