Worst (ok bottom 5) free agent signing/acquisition in Rockets history

And yes, of course they got out of the tax. Why would they pay the tax for a non-contending team? They did this past year.

    Durant: 2y/90M
    FVV: 2y/50M
    Jabari: 5y/122M
    Adams: 3y/39M
    Dori: 4y/53M
    Clint: 3y/21M

That was their offseason last year. Hard capped themselves. 4/6 deals are “underwater”. (And now ran out of 2nd round picks to dump)

If I’m the owner, I have serious questions. But those two conmen (and maybe his son too) stay fooling him.

Pelinka went around telling teams his ankle was cooked. Many thought it was to lower his value (maybe to bring him back).

And to think national media deemed it great and stealing him away from LA, shows you how media bias works and how incompetent they are. It also proved we have an awful FO who just throw money at injured players and once again use second round picks to offload a bad contract.

Tari made DFS expendable. Tari's contract looks extra good compared to DFS and his production.

Does this mean Tate is coming back?

They'll hopefully get some draft capital back for FVV since his contract is expiring. They're either trading FVV or Reed. One of them has to go with Smart here, and I hope it's the former. Reed needs more playing time.

I said I like it but it really depends on what they now go do with the BAE or the trade exception it generated. I would actually rather keep him for a year or just waive him outright than give up 3 second rounders if we aren't going to use that salary to our benefit.

It’s frustrating how little reporting there is surrounding critical decisions that have been made by this regime, namely DFS signing and Green over Mobley. It leaves non-journalists like me having to piece things together from whatever random people in my DMs.

How much did the Rockets actually know about DFS’ medicals before they signed him? We know Pelinka was leaking that his ankle was fried. Did Stone just assume Rob was trying to tank DFS’ value or did he just ignore actual warning signs? This needs to be known because DFS was a top 3 worst signing in Rockets history, not just because he was abysmal but because he left us hard capped, essentially destroying our season. (This is probably a fireable offense for any franchise with any standards). And now, three picks to offload him to duck the tax.

And how much of the decision to take Green over Mobley was impacted by Mobley’s dad not wanting his son around Kevin Porter Jr.? Green over Mobley was the original sin of the rebuild and we know next to nothing about it beyond conjecture.

    Kind of frustrating.

Trade away three SRPs to dump an expiring contract that never should've been signed in the first place. Just great.

    Hey, now!!! :D

I fully expected a DFS salary dump trade and that it would include one or more second round picks to accomplish. I didn't have a problem with that, just as I didn't have a problem when Morey would use ONE second round pick to dump salary to duck the tax. I am upset because they traded THREE second rounders, all without giving up any cash in the deal.

All joking aside, my assumption is that the Rockets tried to trade cash in lieu of at least 1-2 of those second rounders and were simply unsuccessful. Charlotte clearly played hardball and won. And it would have been a risk to wait out the market. But for that price, I would have taken that risk.

Again, in the grand scheme of things, this is just me nitpicking the Rockets, who still have a surplus of FIRST round picks (which are multitudes more valuable than second rounders). This is a small(ish) blemish in what has otherwise been a fairly positive offseason by Rafael Stone, IMO. But I'm at least going to call out that blemish.

A SRP can’t be used as ‘currency’ if not in the bank. Some trades require something coming back, if only SRP protected 55-60.

Does this affirm JO is coming back?

No, but it's been reported that they're still interested in bringing him back.
