The $100 mil wasn't fully guaranteed due to injury concerns. That was the hold up apparently. This contract is fully guaranteed.

We were 0-3 against Lakers in playoffs.

Lakers role players like Smart/Kennard only worth 7 millions while our role player like Jabari/Tari is over 16 millions.

And their role players played ****ing better.

    Something is not right.

Tari Eason is a backup forward who can provide 10 points and 6 boards while also being a physical defender. He is also a career 35% three-point shooter. When constructing a team, it is actually good to have these kinds of players on your team. The downside is that he is prone to injury and he also isn't a self-creator or a creator for anyone else on the team offensively aside from offensive rebounds. However, he does create extra possessions defensively despite not being the best on-ball defender. On paper, this is a key role-player with flaws that hold him back from being a high-end role player or a starter.

The cap rises each season, and he projected to make 8.5% of 100% of the cap next season. That is the kind of number you would hope to give someone who you expect to be a key role player. The catch is that it is 5 years long which could affect the Rockets negatively if Tari begins to become unplayable which is unlikely but still a possibility as we've seen with plenty of players in NBA history.

Overall, retaining a key role player on a team friendly contract is still objectively a good decision rather than being cheap, letting him walk and signing Michael Carter Williams or James Ennis. Nothing else needs to be said.

It's a good annual number, but 5 years with his injury history seems risky. I like what Tari brings though, so hoping for the best.

Not the deal I was expecting. I expectwd higher AAV, but long term team options, nonguaranteed money to mitigate risk.

Maybe it's frontloaded for future flexibility? Or the opposite if they're looking to use the biannual this year?

Did we outbid ourselves. I mean matching an offer is one thing. This seems to be the typical Rockets overpay. I wouldn't consider it overpaying if he was a starter or maybe a good dependable role player. Right now he's neither and had no apparent interest from other teams. Seems more like a contract we hope he grows into instead of the contract he earned.

It truly is amazing to watch. Tari has zero malcontent tendencies. I can guarantee the entire team, staff and Vanessa love him. His quirky humor and refreshing honesty in interviews that the fans loved in yr 1/2 is now seen as something different.

I think much of it came from Tari being a threat to Reed starting, on top of fan dislike of contract disputes. And the board now views Tari as some extension of Ime, so they hate him. Lulz. but you know you love the internet still, Williamson.

that said, I do think he played cautious for much of the year. Look forward to him going all out, again.

But it wasn't fully guaranteed. This is a good compromise.

You can't lose him for nothing, but I'd definitely be looking to trade him. His attitude sucks, he's inconsistent, and he's made of glass. I don't mind the signing as long as they try to make him somebody else's headache ASAP.

I agree with this....its just that unions have a tendency of using their best performers as some sort of barometer for how the entire union operates when everyone knows that isn't the case.

I do like this though because it essentially shielded the Pistons from crippling themselves to keep Duren. The Cavs shouldve done the same with Evan Mobley and frankly for as much praise as he gets....the Williams and Chet contracts were stupid by Presti.

Being young enough to get better rather than near the end of your NBA career makes a huge difference in terms of dollar value. That's all it is really.

I’ve always been a big Tari guy but I have to be honest that I thought it would have been wiser for the team to let him find a deal first, and match or let him walk. I don’t know who they were bidding against in this case.

The deal I thought was a reasonable comp was the Grimes contract. With Texas being no state taxes as well it makes that type of deal even more lucrative.

I think the Rockets overpayed here and I have concerns that Tari isn’t going to take much of a leap at this point in his career given his age and injury issues.

Hope I’m wrong and he takes a step forward this season.

    This deal is about upside.

Yes, Tari’s injuries may return, or he may never hit shots, or he may never figure out how to minimize his bonehead mistake tendencies. In that case the deal is neutral to negative.

But if he has even one truly strong, consistent, and healthy season - this deal makes him an asset worth ~2+ FRPs.

Big wings getting paid less than the MLE who can defend, shoot, rebound, and have great impact metrics get highly highly valued on the trade market. That’s the upside.

And honestly we need high risk high reward assets more than “safe” assets, to get out of the middle.

Tari is more valueable trade asset signed to this contract than he was at the deadline. Tari has more trade value now. So not sure why there are so many folks upset with this signing. If you don’t like Tari and want him traded, we can get more of a return now that he’s signed to this contract. Personally I think he’s gonna have a great season and folks will be signing a different tune, but regardless, signing him to a $16 mil annual made him more valuable across the league.

I guess my problem is Tari wasn't willing to bet on himself ever having a truly strong, consistent, and healthy season.

If he doesn't believe, why should I?

We gotta shake this roster up. The rockets will never be contenders if we keep running the same out every year. There’s no need for a guy tari on this team. I’d rather have a Trey Murphy type to fill that slot. Tari is overrated defensively, can’t create, can’t finish well, not a good shooter, and has incredibly low IQ. He’s the same player he was 3 seasons ago. I just don’t get it
