Seems mostly financial though… if teams/stadiums want to make the investment, it is possible. They also already went through this with the cookie cutter stadiums that converted to astroturf back in the day for “ease”. At the very least, there is a system that exists that seems better/more consistent than the old tray system they used to have.

The Giants/Jets players seem pretty dug in and that surface has gotten almost universal ridicule for its impacts. Jets now looking to find their own shop in Long Island.

Watching the max-protect touchdown to Jaylin Noel against the Chargers yesterday, I noticed Houston had 8 blockers vs. a 4-man rush… and Stroud still had two defenders in his lap at the top of his drop.

The Texans were forced into heavier max protection at times because of injuries in the TE room, among other factors. But you simply can’t live in max protection if you still aren’t creating clean pockets. Asking your QB to consistently throw under pressure against max coverage with only two- or three-man route concepts is an incredibly difficult job.

The offensive line deserved criticism, but it’s also a good reminder that pass protection isn’t just on the OL. Tight ends and running backs are a huge part of those protections, and that aspect of Houston’s offense also has to improve.
