I thought was already known by fans? It’s part of why I have been so critical of FVV being viewed as some savior. He is a tough dude - but he is 33 with serious mileage and a very devastating injury.

I don’t know why everything has to be so secretive.

    IT'S THE ROCKETS, HOMEY.

No matter the owner or the GM, everything is a big got-damn secret.

I think he could still be a solid backup for Reed... but we both know Ime won't use him that way.

If Fred opts in, he will be a negative asset up until the trade deadline and then his salary can be used as filler. Nobody is interested in him at 25m 33 year old coming off major injury. They would require an asset to eat his contract which would do nothing for the Rockets cap situation. He is valuable as a 25m filler in a trade. That’s it.

I agree, but if Fred comes back and Reed is clearly better, I think Ime will eventually do what's necessary and bench Fred. I hope so at least.

According to everyone here, he was already a negative asset. If you offered him to the Pacers for Nembhard, you might have to throw in a kicker, but they are likely going to need to move him eventually anyway. Fred as a backup on limited minutes, and an expiring contract, may make sense for them.

Toss Ime in the pot too.
Unfortunately, that's our "culture"/modus operandi...deflection , no accountability, aggressive and passive aggressive, big egos...
Not to mention a ridiculous amount of incompetence.

not news to FO. However, it might explain opting-in.

If extending Fred is the only way to add a decent PG like you’re saying in your post, is that not a massive indictment on the organization? They didn’t even try last trade deadline while FVV was on the sideline out with injury giving us nothing. We punted last season after trading for ancient KD. If Stone doesn’t do anything major this offseason, he’ll be punting again.

It seems so stupid now that Stone and Ime put all hopes on Fred.

It is. Any half way competent PG would have helped this team last year. I definitely think they fumbled that. I also think that despite what Stone has said, he knows he did. I’m holding out hope he corrects it, but I don’t think people know how much his hands are tied until they work the Tari and Fred situations out.

Once he picks up his player option he does not. He can decline it and be a free agent though.
