http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2930090 So, Calvin Murphy's case comes to a close on Monday - at least the jury gets to start deliberating. If he is found not guilty, does he return to the Rockets and, if so, when? I think most of us would like to see him return because he and Worrell have been together so long and the consensus is that Van just isn't great. But, it is a VERY awkward thing for the Rockets. Even the accusation is a controversy that can take away from the play on the floor. So, I ask the question, will Calvin return if he is found not guilty?
I would LOVE to see him back, but unfortunately I don't think they will let him come back. Maybe that's why I don't enjoy watching the Rockets so much now. Of course it could always be Van's annoying voice, or JVG's style of game, but either way I think Calvin makes it a lot more fun. Pugs
Definitely bring him back. I wonder if he would come back with the same spunk and attitude though? This sort of thing can change a man't whole life.
Yes!!! I wish they would have replaced Van with Bullard but oh well if found not guilty I would love to have him back
I hope he comes back. Listening to that hillbilly Chancellor makes me feel like I am listening to the play by play of a prison rodeo. Whoever picked Chancellor as Calvin's replacement has obviously never heard him speak....or try to speak. I understand this is the south ...but this guy isiridiculous....not to mention a TERRIBLE broadcaster.
Add that to the fact that channel 51 is either using prehistoric cameras or sending out a signal by way of Pakistan....and watching games is a chore.
If Marv can come back, Calvin can come back (if he's free and clear). But I don't see it happening till next season...gotta give the public time to put this whole thing out of their minds.
Even when he is proven not guilty, I think the Rockets wont have the BRASS to ask him back because of the the whole thing...
Yeah I see what you're saying, but one was sex games with a person of legal age....(most can forgive for crazy sex) the other is sex with ones kids.. thats gonna be hard to shake no matter what.. I hope he does get back out there and we get to see him do that little dance in those crazy suits..
I hope he comes back but i'm not counting on it. Let's hope for a not guilty verdict before we start talking about him returning.
i agree. if the man is found innocent then let him back, his personality is a huge part of alot of my memories as a rockets fan and we're really missing him this season.
That's a heart!! I had no idea. I've been seeing that a lot lately. I was thinking what does I (or ____) less than 3 Calvin Murphy (or _____) mean. Sorry to go off topic Go Murphy if not guilty.
Yes. An immediate return will be ideal but I can wait if they decide to wait until next season as a result of the political ramifications (so I voted so). One of the great things about our country is the justice system and the jury of his pears find him not guilty, then he must be returned to the broadcast team. Jeff, I assume that you want him back but you did not show you hand on your preferred timing of his return if found not guilty.
I just hope Calvin didn't really do it. If he didn't then he should be back. but...... Van Chancellor cracks me up.
The Rockets need to come off looking ok in this....they need some positive news and if Calvin is innocent, by standing up for one of their own, it would help a lot. DD
Thanks for asking. If he is innocent, I think the Rockets should allow him to return, however, I would completely understand if his return did not come until the end of the year. Keep in mind that Murphy will still likely face a civil trial after all this. Having him come back in the middle of the season could be a distraction to the team and I would definitely understand if the Rockets didn't want to create that kind of environment around the team. If he is innocent, I definitely want him back as an announcer and the sooner the better, but I would be ok with it if it didn't happen until after the season. I'd be really disappointed if the Rockets just walked away from Murphy if he is found to be not guilty. That would be pretty unfair to an innocent man.
