A long time ago I watched this movie that was about some scientist going to Africa in search of a mysterious chemical that put you in a type of wierd hibernation. The movie portrayed a person who would ingest this chemical to be clinically dead for around 5 days and then suddenly awaken. At the end of the movie, it put off a spin that the chemical actually existed and that it was currently being studied in some lab.

Years later I watch a science program that talks about this chemical and how it might be one of the possible methods for long term space travel. It somehow keeps the braincells alive while in this "suspended animation".

Anyhow, I have been searching for a site to learn more about this intriguing chemical but since I don't know the name of the chemical itself, I just can't come up with anything.
Can someone please help me and either give me a website to go to or atleast give me the name of the chemical itself.

    Thanks for the help!

No it wasn't Medicine Man (good movie however).

In the movie, you were actually dead for 5 days and then you would reawaken. Weird but true story.

    Thanks for the help though.

The movie you are thinking of is "The Serpent & the Rainbow," a Wes Craven movie from the mid-1980's. It's based on the book of the same name by Harvard scientist Wade Davis.

Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the drug.

My wife found all this. She is the greatest researcher on the planet!!! [IMG]
