Randle to the Nets, value of '27 Nets pick plummets

The value of the 2027 Nets pick hugely plummeted with the adoption of the new lotto rules. The Nets pick value likely increases the better they get because they had arguably the worst roster in the nba and could have been in tjat bottom 3 penalty zone. The 2027 nets pick value overall is still much lower than what we projected it to be when we made that trade (8% odds at #1 at best), and it’s projected to be a very weak draft. The nets pick trade tjat has frozen us out of back to back great drafts was a mistake. But the nets being competitive helps the value of that 2027 pick relative to what it would be under the new rules.

So if they can do this now why couldnt they do this last year if they didnt have their pick?

This shows Stone made the right trade as Nets wouldnt be among the worst if they didnt have their pick. They only tanked cuz they had their pick back now they dont have it again they are gonna try and improve their team.

 

It wasnt a mistake since we would have lost one of those draft pieces anyway to get Durant. That would have just left the 2026 draft to a Nets team that wasnt tanking and had capspace and 5 frps in the draft. As you can see by the Randle trade the Nets can indeed make trades to improve their team if they dont have their pick.

As a result of that trade now we have 3 assets to look forward to instead of 1. Tripling the asset base is a massive win and not a mistake.

 

Already some speculation that they are just renting Randle and Michael Porter, Jr. Could see them eventually trading both for some future considerations, though I'm not sure what Randle's value is these days.

 

With the new lottery system this trade means absolutely nothing for the rockets pick

Disagree. The Nets making the playoffs is a much worse scenario than having a top 5-6 pick in this year’s extremely strong draft. Another bonehead move by Stone.
