Aides to Gov. Gavin Newsom of California say several people associated with the couple have been contacted by federal agents in the past week.

He criticized the move as politically motivated.



Mr. Newsom’s office said the investigation is a fresh attempt to smear him after the federal prosecution of his former chief of staff
revealed no misconduct by the governor.

The latest inquiries into associates of Mr. Newsom and Ms. Siebel Newsom began around the time Mr. Trump said that he planned to
nominate Todd Blanche as attorney general, according to the governor’s office.

Mr. Newsom has been highly critical of Mr. Blanche’s nomination to the top Justice Department position, recently
calling Mr. Blanche “the guy covering up the Epstein Files” and saying he “gave Trump and his family
a lifetime pass to commit tax crimes.”

In a letter to the office of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, David Sapp, Newsom’s legal affairs secretary, requested access to
“all documents and records including but not limited to memoranda, emails, text messages, and Signal messages” pertaining to the investigation.

Sapp specifically requested messages from, to or copying “any member of the executive leadership” of the DOJ, including but not limited to

• Blanche,
• former Attorney General Pam Bondi and
• former acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove,

that reference Newsom’s full name, his last name or his wife’s name between Jan. 20, 2025, and the present.

 

In pursuit of Newsom, Trump 2.0’s DoJ hasn’t
earned the benefit of the doubt




given everything we know, it's tough to dismiss the governor's accusations out of hand.
The pieces of the puzzle are unmistakable.

We have a POTUS who has made no effort to hide his willingness to sic his DoJ on his perceived enemies,
an acting AG who's gone after the president's enemies to curry favor with the boss he's desperate to impress and
a lengthy rhetorical record in which Trump — who insists on condemning Newsom with "Newscum" taunts — has
made clear he sees the California Democrat as one of his favorite targets.

The result isn't exactly a riddle that's tough to unravel.​

 

Newsom’s Lawyer Says DOJ Should Investigate Trump's
family members and associates Instead​

Newsom's legal affairs secretary has urged the Department of Justice to investigate President Donald Trump instead, Politico reported. In a letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, attorney Anthony Sapp accused the DOJ of wasting resources on baseless probes into Newsom. Sapp described the investigations as rooted in "conspiracy theories peddled by rightwing operatives and outlets."

"Calling this investigation a fishing expedition is actually too generous," Sapp wrote in the letter. He added that the DOJ's resources "would be focused elsewhere" if the department's commitment to fighting corruption were genuine. Sapp urged the DOJ to focus on "the open-air corruption market that the White House has become."

Sapp challenged Blanche to confirm whether the DOJ has opened any investigations into "apparent public corruption" involving Trump and his allies.

basically bring a criminal investigation or a criminal case against Gavin Newsom.

That is NOT how the DOJ works. That is against the manual, the protocol, the regulations in some cases.

The DOJ and the FBI have strict rules about when you open an investigation. It's based on evidence and a reasonable,
articulable basis to believe a crime has occurred. Evidence of a crime is where you start, not with a dartboard of people
who Donald Trump doesn’t like and that is a worry in that office.​
