I really think we need a proven inning-eating SP3-SP5. Every backup rotation member you mentioned is injury prone, incredibly short outing prone, or completely untested. And Imai belongs on that list, not the ‘predictably give you a chance to win’ starter list, which is only three pitchers long. In a six man rotation, we need a fourth pitcher who is at least 50/50 to win his starts and pitch 5 innings.

We need a fourth pitcher who finishes fourth in Cy Young voting.

I don’t think a .500 pitcher who goes 5 innings finishes quite that high. Though in the AL, maybe. I’ll take .450 and 4.5 if need be … we don’t even have that.

Albert Fermin hit his first homer as a pro in the DSL Orange team's 16-5 win over the Royals' Fortuna team. The home run was of the three-run variety, and he also had an RBI single as part of a 3-5 day.

Carlos Sandoval, a 17-year-old outfielder from Mexico who also signed when the current IFA period opened (he wasn't entered into the system until March), also hit his first pro home run. Alexander Huerta, a catcher from Mexico who signed in March, went 3-4 with two doubles (one drove in two runs) and scored 5 runs. Sebastian Mendez, an infielder from Venezuela who signed for $225,000 at the start of this IFA period, drove in 3 with a single, a bases-loaded walk, and a double.

Nigh, 22, went undrafted after four years (2022-25) at Oakland University in suburban Detroit. He slashed .292/.410/.478 with 26 home runs and 141 RBI in 206 games with the Golden Grizzlies.

In 24 games with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League, he hit .342/.495/.620 with 5 home runs and 34 RBI.

edit: corrected formal name of school

MLB/MiLB teams "purchase" contracts from the Independent Leagues, Mexican Leagues, etc...all the time

    That's what happened here.

If they slim the draft down to 12 rounds like they want, the Indy Leagues will explode, and this will become a very common occurrence.

I’m wondering if it goes down like that maybe MLB with have official affiliations with certain Indy leagues where the players aren’t under contract with MLB teams but they are clearly feeder leagues for MLB.

The University of Oakland in Suburban Detroit sounds crazy.
Does anyone know what the development list means? I was checking on Ryan Forcucci and it has that next to his roster status. I know its probably not good but dont know exactly what it means.

Cameron Sisneros was drafted by the Cubs in the 14th round out of East Tennessee State in 2024. His main attribute is that he gets on base (.401 career OBP). Sisneros drove in 86 runs during the 2024 college baseball season, which ranked 4th in Division I.

Sisneros is the latest player to enter the system who gets on base via bat or walk, albeit with marginal power for a premium offensive position, much like Jack Moss and Drew Brutcher. He is hitting .265/.419/.422 with 6 home runs and 37 RBI in 49 games between South Bend (A+) and Knoxville (AA). He's walked 46 times and struck out 41 times. Skimming the numbers, he appears to be a left-handed Tyler White if things pan out and he somehow makes it to Houston.

Strictly a 1B and is already 25, so this is definitely a "get something... anything" trade. Sisneros looks like he's showing signs of hitting for power more consistently, so this looks like a decent get.

Development list is an opportunity for a player to stay in the organization without counting toward the total roster limits. Usually it means a guy is going to the complex to work on something or taking a break to reset. For Forcucci this season has been a bust except for the fact that he’s not hurt. Next season will be another chance for him to break out.

Justin Thomas hit his 10th home run of the season for Asheville, which is pretty much the only thing that’s gone right for them tonight.

Do one with catchers. I'll give you a head start. Diaz has only won 10 starts and 4 of them were in the first 2 weeks of the season.
