Yes, I'm talking about the #1 scorer/primary ballhandler on a championship team. As great of a player as Wemby is, he's not a super-efficient scorer and doesn't really have any elite offensive skills, just a collection of pretty good ones that play up because he's 7'4".
What an insane thing to say they went from a lottery team to the finals with the most unstoppable player in the league. You know the dude that can catch alley oops over other centers, dribble like a guard and then pull up from logo
Wemby has struggled a bit as opposing teams exploit the SF sized PG on his team that can't shoot.... something Sengun knows about all too well. That kind of thing can make some forget just how good they really are.
He has legitimate skills on offense, he is a good ballhandler, shooter, and passer for a big man. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying he doesn't really have any elite, unstoppable offensive skills right now. He relies a lot on his size, and as a result can be stopped by good team defense. He needs something like a go-to post move, or significant improvement on his jump shooting, or something along those lines if he wants to be a 30ppg scorer who starts racking up multiple MVP awards. Right now his offense is a tier below the best offensive players in the league IMO. (He is already arguably the best defensive player in the league though.) He's 22 years old though. He has plenty of time to get there, and there's a good chance he will, unfortunately.
I think you mean the Finals, 4 games. Not the whole playoffs. Assuming you’re using nba.com stats for NetRtg And btw, OG Anunoby (-6.7) has a worse Net rating than Castle (-5.3), and the worst starter for Knicks, as well. So, he’s a scrub, too? Or your stats aren’t as useful as you think they are.
Pretty much any stat over a few games is meaningless, but if you look at the full season stats/metrics this past season it generally favors Reed. Guards who don’t need to be guarded really hurt your offense, there’s no way around that. Yes, wemby masks it to a large degree which helps castle a ton but if you look at castle without wemby it’s pretty ugly on both ends.
I mean the entire playoffs. Castle is the ONLY starter that the team has a negative net rating with them on the court compared to when he's off the court in the playoffs (-7.7) It's true the Knicks also have a negative net rating with OG on the court compared to of the court... but that's also true of Brunson and the likely cause is how bad they are when KAT isn't on the court. There's no such explanation for Castle.
So, you’re just making up reasons to explain away facts?? lulz. That’s what you accuse others of doing the fact is that your stat is meaningless. I proved it by showing OG’s NRtg is worse than Castle. And since you’ve clarified that you are using On/Off difference, that’s fine to use, but it’s showing the Spurs extend leads when Castle is playing. You’re just saying they extend the lead more when he isn’t. Can be a lot of reasons for that, like excuses you gave OG and Brunson — like he only rests when Ant/Shai/Brunson/Avdija rest so the Spurs with their 6MOY and Harper coming off the bench, can push leads. But it doesn’t say Castle is a negative player in any way. He’s got a +6 NRtg for the playoffs.
I explained to you why the Knicks have negative net ratings when OG and Brunson are on the court.... by all means, if you think there's an explanation for Castle, let's hear it. The fact that he's the ONLY starter and ONLY guard on the roster that the Spurs have a negative net rating when on the court points to it being a Castle problem.
It’s just such a bogus stat. Castle is plus 5 when he is on the court. The +- might be different when he is off the court, but you know as well as anybody, that there is so much more that goes into that stat. Just a Reed only fan, making his bogus case over and over again. I guess Castle’s one on one defense on Brunson is negative as well. There is virtually no one in the entire NBA that views Castle as a “scrub” like you. You’re just butt hurt, because all your Reed predictions were sh*t.
There’s a reason castle, rookie Harper, Kelton Johnson, Vassel , champegne and every other normie look like super role players. When you play next to a guy like Wemby it opens everything up. He is the entire opposing defense’s gameplan
Wemby is not the reason for all these guys success. Dylan Harper is immediately the 2nd best player on the Rockets (sans KD). The Reed cope is getting thick around here. Reed may even end up better than Castle, but not anytime soon, because of body type. You don’t have to tear down everybody on the Spurs to justify your fandom for Reed. He improved greatly this year. Why not just be satisfied and hopeful for him in the future. The Spurs don’t whiff the finals without Castle and Harper.
It's not a bogus stat, you just don't like what it says....which is what you say about anything that doesn't agree with your eye test. I know you really like athletic SF sized guys who play PG that can't shoot, but your fetish shouldn't completely blind you to reality.
Jesus ****ing Christ man it has nothing to do with Reed. You’re projecting like you do when it comes to defending amen. Castle is better than Reed ok, got it? Can we put this crap to bed and be objective instead of slurping and simping for guys playing with someone that will be in the GOAT conversation That isn’t a mutually exclusive event from this random coincidence of why a bunch of guys that should be role players are coming out and playing g super roles is Harper good? Yes, you bet. Is he polished coming out as a rookie to where he is a 2nd best player? No. That is common sense…if you watch the games you see the entire offense is constructed around Wemby with fast cuts. It’s feasting time for any guard. I find it hard to believe you guys watched the OKC series. Wemby is the only reason they got past them.
LOL - yes, Wemby is - his gravity and attention gives everyone more room on the floor and he is an easy lob threat in the paint. It is like saying Hakeem didn't make Kenny Smith or Maxwell better. Frankly it is a horrible take. DD
