Who would you put in cf? Just curious as it seems the guys we have can play it as a backup vs full time. Assuming matthews gets sent down.
Matthews and Cole are very good in CF, well above average and Matthews will probably eventually be elite with more experience. Loperfido and Trammell are passable in CF. I would like to see Cam Smith in CF because I think he’d be elite there but not sure if now is a good time to move him.
Didn't consider Cole as he was just optioned. Once everyone is healthy (minus Diaz), seems like altuve is nearly ready. Who would your thirteen position players be?
SS Pena DH Alvarez 3B Paredes 1B Walker LF Wade 2B Altuve RF Smith CF Trammell C Vazquez Bench: Allen, Diaz, Meyers, Matthews I would option Diaz for a few weeks to let him rediscover his bat and potentially gain another year of control. But in the end that would be my roster if everybody except Correa was healthy. I would have Trammell and Meyers in a pretty strict platoon and Matthews would play LF against lefties because Wade is strictly a platoon player.
I love that the guy just signed off the street is the 5-hole hitter and yall think he can play the OF.
Regarding Cam , has there been a player y'all remember who played 3b in college , but then transitioned and is widely considered a stud RF , and most people think he could play a good CF too ? Looking it up , he did play SS in highschool . Just interesting transitioning from 3B . Athleticism plays I suppose. Overall our OF defense should be elite if we want it to be between Meyers , smith , Matthews , cole , and trammell . That's 5 guys you would all say are passable at CF with Smith and cole having particularly strong arms . Loperfido isn't tragic either . I understand why the value coming back from trading Meyers wouldn't be very high , other teams can see we have at least 3 guys we want getting AB's in cole , smith , and Matthews . Altuve will come back and Matthews will take a hit . Cole had to go to AAA , where I think he's been maxed out .
Salazar just wasn't getting it done by behind the plate. We lost 6 of the 7 starts with him catching this season. Not to mention his absymal offense (.056 BA) and poor ABS challenges.
Pretty suspicious that Shewmake gets put on the IL and a “Collin Price” suddenly is added to the team. Besides his terrible stats, Salazar just didn’t have the demeanor of a reliable catcher. He often looked timid or nervous. Vibes were off when he was behind the plate.
I don't think he needs to sell out for power. The power is natural. I just think he needs to lift the ball. The power will take care of itself.
He is definitely a much worse outfielder. There is a sample size of hundreds of MLB innings to show/prove that. What he is, though, is a grown up with a certain floor that the lineup 5-9 simply has lacked since Altuve went on the I.L. I prefer him platooning w/ Dezenzo or Matthews and hitting in bottom 1/3rd of the lineup but if he does that he is a solid addition. Still just a band aid though. This move proves that for 2026 none of Matthews, Cole, Trammell, Dezenzo, or Loperfido are the answer and Dana Brown has accepted it.
