The end of an immensely tiring day and the last thing I do is to check on the Astros and see if they came back and won.
These types of comebacks are truly rare. You may get one of these every few years. But chances of getting a win when down by 4 runs in the 8th inning and two out, is practically a loss 99%+ of the time. Folks leaving early (or turning their TV or radio off) is what makes this all the much more special. The radio announcers love rubbing it in that people who left early are missing on a gem of a game. I’ve turned off my radio plenty of times when the team is getting hammered only to see the team make the game interesting.
Man, I turned it off after the GS and then woke up and checked espn and dam.................they came back. Could this be a "turn the season around" game, guess we will see
Hmmm…he’s got a WAR of 1.6 for a reason. I applaud the Astros for letting him develop. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/smithca07.shtml
Yordans stats are top notch. 2.6 WAR. Probably should be higher but he is a DH. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alvaryo01.shtml
I think Smith has been more unlucky than bad at the plate this season. Will be interesting to see if his overall numbers improve over the next few months.
The main criticism of him is legit and it has nothing to do with luck: he hits way too many balls on the ground (3B last night was of course genius though)
When you don't lift the ball, they get caught. When he does lift the ball, it goes out of the park or hits the back wall. He's been doing a better job of getting the ball in the air recently. I think he's making a lot of adjustments during the season and it will eventually pay dividends. His launch angle numbers have been slowly climbing.
His GB rate is like 3% above leave average. Not great and an area he needs to improve but not something that should cripple him as a hitter either. His expected wOBA is fourth best on the team. He can definitely get better as a hitter but given his horrid ending to last year I think this year has been very promising for him so far. He’s looking like an above average every day player. IMO, they should try to move Meyers and have Smith as their starting CF.
