Take calls for KD. Get the best offers, then remember at the end that KD will still be better than Smith JR in 2038. Then just sell Jabari for the KD package and profit. Go win a playoff series and slowly Houston fans will stop unanimously agreeing to trade our only good players for #7 pick Keaton Wagler.
I want to trade him, however, for the sake of argument I think that keeping him and adding another veteran is the only chance we have to contend next year. And I think Udoka and Stone are probably feeling the heat, so neither will want to take a step backwards by trading away their best player. I don’t think that keeping him is in the best long term interests of the organization, but I’m not sure Stone gives a **** about that when he’s trying to keep his job right now.
We didnt need KD to tell us we had no superstars thats really contrived and ridiculous. The entire point of KD was he was supposed to be the superstar and he's not. Sometimes you guys say the most ridiculous things and youre dead serious about it. Its really ****ing funny.
I think with amazing injury luck the Rockets can be the third best team in the West and a top 5-6 team in the league. I guess it matters if that upside (and it’s not likely everyone old player is healthy) is enough for ownership and the fans. For me it isn’t, I would deal KD. However I wouldn’t stop there. I would be open to moving 3/4 the roster for draft picks.
KD is a great player but he's not going to make the other guys on the team better ... he needs to be plugged into a team of veterans so he can focus on his individual contributions only. I hope we can find a better fit next season, but I don't think that's gonna happen. We need to just let him do what he does and stay quiet ... and we need someone on the team to take over as the leader of the team. Alpi started to realize that at the end of the playoff series but it was too late. Hopefully he comes in next year and becomes the voice of the team while KD just does his thing and scores in volume. Hope.
After finishing #2 last season, the front office had enough confidence in our young core to believe we were 1 player away from championship contenders. Well, looks can be deceiving...you're dumb to believe KD is not a superstar. He basically carried our scrub team this season. KD got hurt and we got dominated by Smart/Kennard/grandpa Bron. I agree with you KD's age does not fit the timeline of our young players, but this group ain't doing **** with the emergence of the Spurs...
I really am worried about the collective bbiq of some of the people on this board sometimes. Jesus christ. ok man whatever you say. We all thought the young guys were already superstars before the mighty KD texter of the gods set us straight lol OH and KD isnt a glorified shooter and one of the only "superstars" in the league that cant pass out of a double team, be a leader or make his teammates better. My bad what was I thinking. He is by the numbers the second slowest player on defense in the league behind harden. He gives you shooting and virtually nothing else positive on a regular basis.
I am very doubtful we can get a lot back for him. KDs contract has to become an expiring one for his trade value to be worth the kind of picks we want.
I don’t mind either way but I will say I don’t think we’re gonna get Fair Market Value or anything that’s going to be franchise altering in return. I’m cool with seeing what the team can do at full strength and then letting him walk after his contract and have that sweet cap space.
the only real argument is that he’s an elite shooter and scorer, and those are 2 things this team lacks tremendously the team should be better with FVV and Adams…although I think FVV is one of the worst starting PG’s in the NBA, he’s at least still better than having no PG I also think that 32 y/o Adams is just a backup big and the 2 big lineup is nothing more than a gimmick, but his domination on the offensive boards is impactful for a team that bricks so much if I thought this mid young core was gonna take any sort of leap and we were gonna do much better than FVV at PG, I wouldn’t mind keeping him…I don’t want to just give him away tho the Rockets should already be thinking about their KD replacement, because nobody else on this team is a #1 option, and even being a good 2nd option is iffy although guys like Bron, KD, Steph, Harden, Butler, etc are aging well, especially compared to what we’re used to in the past where stars were out the league or hanging out at the end of the bench by their mid-late thirties, these guys are too old to be relied upon so much…Steph broke down by the 2nd round last year, KD only managed one game in the 1st round this year, Butler couldn’t last, and after two 7 game series, Harden looked like he had cement feet in the conference finals…Bron has to take plays off and conserve energy, and he was honestly pretty bad in our series, we were just so trash it didn’t matter
My argument about keeping KD: What else the f*** are we gonna do? The coach can't coach. The general manager can't manage, generally. They need a future first-ballot hall of fame player as a Bandaid for their incompetence.
SOmeone like OKC who can't afford to pay all their players and draft 6 FRP over the next 2 years.....let's get some of their draft capital - they don't need it...and they can get KD as a homecoming. DD
Guaranteed 27ppg on high efficiency and passable defense in the playoffs is WAY rarer and more necessary than you think. You've seen our guys trying to iso - they're not close. Some teams spend 5-6 years looking for that.
So the two main arguments I’m hearing: 1). If everyone stays healthy and we make some upgrades, we might be able to contend. 2). We can’t get enough return value in a trade to make it worth it. I think these are fairly reasonable arguments: 1) i don’t think we can expect Fred to come back playing really well off of injury, and he certainly will be load managed. Steveo’s will be even more constrained with load management, and the risk of re-injury is very high. I’m not counting on either next season and anything we get from them is a cherry on top. I don’t see a contending team even if fully healthy. Even making a trade for a star wouldn’t truly make us contenders with what we’d have to give up. And older stars carry much more injury risk and salary. 2). I’m not sure what KD’s value is, but I’m pretty sure we could get at least the #11 pick from Golden State in this yr’s draft. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that a package that includes KD could get us to #5. But conservatively assuming his value is #11 and an asset, I think that’s better than not recouping value for him at all. It’s like recouping the #10 pick we gave up for him and probably a little more. I can live with that.
