I would second South Africa's legal system. How the Truth and Reconiliation commision works into it would make a great paper. One other choice that you could probably find a lot of information about is the new legal system being developed for Iraq. While not yet in place it would provide some interesting speculation on applying and adapting a Western American system on an Islamic country that is used to tyranny.
I have a few questions: 1. What makes Iran different from other countries in the Middle East? I mean they all have law based upon the Koran if I'm not mistaken so are all countries in the Mid-East theocracies, if not what makes Iran different let's say from Saudi Arabia? I mean what's the difference between Saudi Arabia law and Iran law, if any? 2. What type of legal system does France exactly have?
Oh yeah when I'm talking about legal systems, I mean the criminal justice sytem in particular and the organization, policy, and ideology of that countries criminal justice system. Examples of this would be community policing, police corruption, police use of deadly force, pursuit, punishment, evidence and procedure, search and seizure, etc.
I heard that some Russian's were inquiring into our legal system and they were sent videos of Law and Order. Interesting little tidbit, but it raises the question: were the Russian's overhauling their legal system? Were they trying to base it on the US system, or trying to pick the best aspects from different countries? How much latitiude does their Constitution allow, anyway?
Particularly they were overhauling their criminal justice system and began implementing experimental jury trials a few years back IIRC. Not sure how it has turned out (though obviously for high level folks like the Lukos guy and others on Putin's s-t list any measure of justice is suspect.)
Iran has a strong slant to the Shia branch of Islam and Saudi Arabia has a strong slant to the Sunni branch of Islam.
