Would it be better if we kept Cato and received only Tmac for Steve/Cuttino?

Call this a low carb trade.

And get a competent and injury-free PG.

Cato is what the Rox misses most: atheletism and rebounding.

I doubt the Magic would be as keen on the low-carb trade. I think Cato was a pretty big piece of the trade for them.

How about if it had been Steve and Cato for TMac only?

    US:
    Mobley
    McGrady
    Jackson
    Taylor
    Yao

    THEM:
    Nelson
    Francis
    Hill
    Howard
    Cato

That would be an awesome 1/2 punch. Cuttino played PG for the Rockets before. Cuttino is a unselfish player, he doesnt care what position he plays, only how many open jumpers he can hit!

If we could have kept Cato instead of getting Howard, we would have been looking pretty. But the deal would have never gone through, it barely squeeked by as is. We can only hope we can someday trade Juwan "DNP-CD" Howard for a poor-man's Kelvin Cato.

I'm pretty sure the Magic were intent on D. Howard playing PF for them. If that was the case, Cato is a nice complementary C for him. A Howard/Howard frontcourt would have been pretty soft, but a Howard/Cato frontcourt atleast gives them the size and athleticism, and dare I say---toughness?

a howard cato frontcourt is awesome for that team. it gives them 2 seven footers (and in the east at that), both of whom can rebound well and block shots to help shut down the basket area. also, with howard still very raw, neither demands many shots which works well because their 1, 2, and 3 (francis, mobley, hill) are all good offensive players who need shots. and francis/mobley/hill are all getting out and running which is possible b/c of their rebounding and they are also athletic enough to occasionally join in.

if howard (who seems to be able to get a dunk anytime he's within 5 feet of the basket) gets his offense to catch up with his defense in short time, they could be very good very soon if hill holds up. i'll say it again, very well put together.

I can top that. I think a Steve for Tmac trade would have better with us keeping Cat and Cato. Too bad the Magic didn't see it that way.

I'm surprised anyone thinks Orlando didn't insist on Cato being in the deal. They'd been wanting size in the middle for awhile.

Well, the Magic brought in Battie, so I don't think Cato was AS crucial as we all think he was, just for salary purposes...

I miss Cato. I know the fans were hard on him at the beginning, but that guy played really well the past couple of years with Yao and had a good chemistry with Steve. People expected too much from him at the beginning, but he consistently brought rebounds and block shots. Cato suffered from Horry-itus. People thought Horry would end up to be Scottie Pippen....

    THANK GOD HE DIDNT.

I liked Cato. He did the dirty work and boxed out people down low, enabling Yao to increase his rebounding numbers (and preventing some of these 2:1 Offensive board ratios we been giving up). Maybe if opposing teams didnt seem to be getting 10-15 off rebs a game, we'd win a few more at least

We should have gotten GRANT HILL! out of the deal somehow. Give them back Howard/Lue/Gaines.

    FRANCIS/MOBLEY/CATO = TMAC/GRANT HILL
