That one's a good example, much better than the people touting near 30% shooters at their baseline. Maybe we should find out who taught Lopez to shoot? Though one must also remember he was technically the "star player" on his squad before that (obviously in an era of mostly lower scoring.) I'd kill for Ameiz to have his shot chart in the season preceding the leap as a distance shooter. He was already money by league average on the long 2's.
This is the crazy sauce that Amen-stans pour over everything. Nick says Amen and Ausar need to lock themselves in a gym with a shooting coach this summer to earn max deals. But they are extension eligible now! And they've already been working with shooting coaches for years! It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! You'll sit in the f**cking pumpkin patch year after year waiting for these guys to learn how to shoot, but they want to be paid now!
My biggest worry with Amen is that he learns to shoot, but not until he's in his late 20s. There have actually been a number of players who quietly practiced their 3P shots throughout their 20s and got legitimately competent at it, but not until they played under a coach who encouraged them to actually shoot it in NBA games. Most of the time, though, that didn't happen until after age 27-28 or so. If that's the case Amen may never reach his potential. We'll see.
Maybe we should just trade for Asuar and surround the Thompsons twin with shooters. I’m not kidding. It’s gonna take out of the box thinking to be relevant over the next several yrs.
How much could we get for him? Amen ain’t leading anyone anywhere given the state of the league. But he is our biggest asset. What’s the return on that.? Asking cause I sincerely don’t know.
I don’t know but it is quite depressing. Watching a bit of that game tonite and no one is beating that unless there are injuries. You need to trade Durant 100% see what you have next year and for the next 3-4 season do some trade for future assets and then inflate the reaming assets on the team to stay young. Turning what you have into future picks. Take on some bad contracts like the Thunder did. Because I really think the rockets are cooked. You can’t compete for the next 3-5 years in my opinion.
Depending if you trade him to Sacramento or to an organization that knows how to lowball you. The problem with him is that he cannot lead a team yet, he can make a bad team probably 2-3 seeds better ......
Seems abundantly clear to me. I don’t care if we suck for a while, but what I know is this roster isn’t good enough and even on their best day does’t fit well together. I’d prefer to not play make believe in the face of what we’re seeing. Let’s get a return asap and start over. Our opportunity coat is roughly a penny. The problem is I don’t trust the people in charge enough fo think they’d find the right guy. But they could get lucky. I’d take that chance over running it back and playing make believe.
only time will tell, but you're delusional if you think a good offensive coach can counter an actual contender playing 5 on 4 defense for 48 minutes. there's a reason teams play small in the playoffs, why hartenstein only played 10 minutes today, gobert sits for whole quarters, etc. also, castle is shooting 40% in the playoffs, fox is miles ahead of the thompsons when it comes to shooting and so does someone like dort for example.
I've said this over and over, being a good 3pt shooter is a range thing. If all your attempts are 8ft and in, you have limited range and will not even be a good mid range shooter. The way Amen can get to the rim, if he just worked on his 16ft game like Derozan, his 3 pt shot would come around as would his ft %.
If they trade Durant, they might as well trade everyone not on a rookie deal. If not, they will be just good enough to barely miss the playoffs and get the #13 draft pick
It hit close to home when Channing Frye said this about Ausar, shoot a ****ing jumper over the summer at least 100 times.
Dort wasn't always a great shooter. He had to work at it. I wouldn't put too much stock into Castle's shooting. Tari was hitting 50% from 3 for like 2 months. Eventually the shoe will drop and Spurs will have the same issue the Rockets and Pistons do. OKC and Spurs have the luxury of Chet/Wemby which means they dont have to start traditional centers and still get rim protection. Rockets should theoretically be able to do this but everyone's convinced our players are too dumb to do it.
I would say let's wait until RFA so that Amen has to prove himself next season. It's also better for us to wait until Ausar has already got his contract. I'm sure Detroit also wants to sign Ausar before we sign Amen because Amen might drive up the cost for Ausar.
The only chance we can compete with OKC Thunder and SA Wembys is to hope for getting a generational talent through the draft. It may not have to be a #1 pick. But we have to be lucky enough to find someone in the draft. No franchise player in his prime is walking through that door. We'll have to farm our own with LOTS of luck. The young guys we have are fine as role players, maybe even great role players. But they aren't generational talent. The only guy left that has maybe a sliver of hope is Amen if he can develop a shot. But it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon, if ever.
for sure. i completely agree. it would be quite interesting to test that theory out as well. if durant was 12 years younger and 24 years old right now and see how good this would be the next 5 years.
A day. Not 100 times. 100 times a day. That's the big problem with Amen, Ausar, Jalen ****ing all these supremely talented athletes with no touch. They do these silly drills with unnatural movements and learn moves and combos like they're playing Tekken. Then they get in the game and none of it applies, because you've only practised 40 shots of random dribble moves that you either can't, won't or shouldn't use in an NBA game. They should shoot from every spot on the court they need to be better at hundreds of thousands of times, exactly the same, every time. It's not a coincidence the way Steph just hits everything without trying most of the time. Or why you could put side by side tape of Ray Allen shooting and just end up with 100's of identical speed-height-arc-make shots. There's some natural skill involved, sure, but the great shooters also put in an insane level of work to get that form and consistency. Why spend 25 seconds of every drill doing a 2k dribble move and then a shot when you could just take 5 shots instead and increase the rep time by huge amounts?
I know it's a different NBA, but people forget that the season Dwayne Wade lead the Heat to their 1st championship (2006), he only shot 17% from 3. Most of his career, he was a sub 30% shooter. Not saying I think Amen can reach Wade level, but I don't think it's unreasonable to think he can learn to shoot the ball at least as well as Wade. The mid range jumper is the key. If he's not gonna be a good 3-point shooter, he needs to be fairly automatic from mid range. With the way he's improved his FT%, I could easily see him significantly improve his mid range jumper.
