It would be a waste of time when there are so many other things to do.

In addition, I don't know about you or anybody else, but I watch the Astros for the name on the back of the jersey AND the name on the front.

I am a fan of players. I follow them through the minors and on the Astros.

To me, enjoying players after years of watching and following them is very important.

If a player is a star and is an Astro 5+ years I don't want to see them on another team.

I want them traded if its obvious they won't be staying but if they want to be here I want them too.

I don't look at players as robots without personality and identity. I have developed a FANDOM for them and consider much more than just wins or losses when deciding if I want them to remain Astros.

I look forward to the day we trade Altuve for this era's version of Brett Wallace.

I only care about thie name on the front of the jersey not on the back.

Players fungable, I only care about winning and if trading a player regardless of who that player is can help produce a winning team that's all that should matter. Holding onto Biggio and Bagwell too long is what helped cause the last rebuild. Holding onto Altuve will eventually have the same effect.

I don't understand fans that prioritize keeping players past their primes over putting a winning team on the field. Winning is all that should matter or they should stop keeping score.

I like Arrighetti but he’s due for some serious regression unless his %K-%BB significantly improves.

Yeah he has been getting very lucky that his walks have not been hurting him. Same for Lambert. Both guys have ace era’s while pitching like solid #4’s.

I understand fans who want to win and only care about winning, but thats just not how I'm wired.

I love watching individual players and tracking their results and looking forward to milestones.

A great play excites me and I can be happy even in a loss if there were other things to enjoy.

I also look forward to players accomplishing various things as much as I look forward to the score and result of all those plays.

Thats about the best I can explain it.

If the Astros traded Bagwell and Biggio when they had value and started rebuilding, they likely never have the phenomenal 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Trading Altuve today is trading a 0 WAR player - you're not going to get anything for him at his contract. If you had traded him a few years ago in the midst of the Astros' success, I don't think it would have gone over well.

So, our pitching has been notably better with Vasquez than Diaz, and that made me wonder.

So, DIaz has an ERA catching of around 5.6, and Vasquez is about 4.9 or so, that is a massive difference catching the same staff, and Vasquez is 10-8 overall.

I believe Vasquez calls a better game.

    Oh I understand,

I just disagree with you and when the name on the back means more than the name on the front then they should stop keeping score and have a big party. When this happens I'll stop watching sports.

that's cool man, very nice, good for you

Those comments definitely track, considering that you never turn down an opportunity to pine for Jeff Luhnow…

A certain GM's tenure really shifted a lot of folks toward this "I don't care who's on the team as long as the team is winning" mentality, and I admit I got caught in that wave. Now, it's rather galling to me that some of these folks are now essentially pro-management and are actively wishing that some suit was back in the front office instead of... well, someone who is actually playing the game.

Running the minor league threads on here for as long as I have has actually made me at least somewhat interested in the stories of the guys who are trying to make it, knowing full well that the vast majority of them don't make it. That's what makes baseball fun to me, at least.

    I never said more.

But I watch/follow baseball for enjoyment.

Learning about and following players ( people) and watching them perform is enjoyable to me.

    Just like winning is.

The flipside of this is he might have seen the Astros' IL train and decided not to necessarily pitch to maximize strikeouts. If that's the case and he can figure out how to pitch to weak contact, that could both make him an effective pitcher without the high strikeout rate and keep him healthier.

Pitching coach explains the walk problems:

    1. ABS Challenge system has umps calling tighter zone and hitters swinging less.
    2. Astros pitchers throwing too many hittable pitches in 2 strike counts.
    3. Astros pitchers with best command are hurt (Walter, Brown, Hader) or gone (Framber).
    4. Astros added pitchers with walk issues (Imai, Weiss, Bolton).
