I don't really watch college football, but I keep reading that the 2027 QB draft class is deep. For those that do watch, who do you like and is there anyone who could start as a rookie and be a "game manager" like CJ currently is? I'm wondering if there are a handful of QBs who could give us similar production to CJ in 2027, but on a rookie contract and also have upside in the coming years. Maybe CJ surprises us in 2026 and a rookie QB won't be needed, but if he continues to be a #15-20 QB, then maybe we can trade him for a 2027 1st and parlay that into a rookie QB to reset the position on a cheaper deal.
Arch Manning Dante Moore Darien Mensah CJ Carr Jayden Maivea Lanorris Sellers Drew Mestemaker ... ... these guys and a few others (Hoover, Soresby, Leavitt) could all be 1st/2nd picks next year. It's a good year for QB We'll see.
The PROBLEM is if we have a similar yr to last yr, the Texans are picking in the low 20's. So, we may pick the 5th or 6th best QB in 2027. And if we trade CJ and get a 2nd or 3rd draft pick, how much draft capital is that going to give Nick to move up to at a minimum get a shot at the 3rd or 4th best QB?? TO GET A GOOD QB, THE TEXANS HAVE TO BE IN THE TOP 10.
This draft is deep overall. Leavitt might be available at the bottom of the first, great athlete and elite accuracy.
If Stroud looks more like 2025 playoff Stroud than rookie Stroud, I could totally see it. I don't expect that, but if he is totally getting into his own head and loses all confidence, then the team will have to go a different direction. Maybe they sign a vet QB game manager, but I would be surprised if they didn't also draft a QB at some point in that scenario.
Today I learned that a college QB who has never played in the league is better than an NFL QB who won rookie of the year and has won a playoff game every year of his career so far.
Meh. It’s a public board. I call it like is see it. If y’all want to have a private convo, then exchange emails.
