The first trailer has been released for “Weapons” filmmaker Zach Cregger’s new “Resident Evil” film adaptation. The project tells an original story unrelated to the previous films and inspired by the early video games of the series. Austin Abrams stars as a package delivery driver tasked with transporting a mysterious case to Raccoon City Hospital during a deadly virus outbreak. Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson co-star in the $80 million-budget film, which has been dubbed a ‘horror version of “Mad Max: Fury Road”‘ and is said to be a very lean 90 minutes and filled with practical effects. In recent interviews, Cregger has hinted he’s going for an “Evil Dead II” style vibe with wild, inventive filmmaking combined with horror and dark humour touches.
