It wasn't a racial issue it was a timing issue, Ty was teetering on the brink but I don't think this years performance would have kicked him over the edge if Urban Meyer hadn't been talked up for every high profile job out there. He is the obvious heir apparent to succeed Ty Willingham and ND couldn't afford to give Ty another year without risking losing him to Florida (I believe I heard he had worked under the guy who is Florida's athletic director, who wants him bad and that's why he didn't jump on Spurrior) ; or some other top program.

You couldn't say Urban, you coach at Utah 1 more year anf if Ty doesn't go 8-3 or better the ND job is yours.

Aren't the admission standards every bit as high at Stanford as they are at Notre Dame?

Notre Dame needs to hire Greg Davis.

He is by far the most qualified person for the job.

Notre Dame will go after Urban Meyer very aggressively. Urban has 3 outs in his contract with Utah for 3 head coaching positions - Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame.

Last night on Sportscenter, they mentioned that ND had the #32 ranked recruiting class in the nation last year, which is totally unacceptable. Once the recruiting slides, you'll fall into the abyss with a schedule that includes Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, BC, Tennessee, and USC.

Urban Meyer will be in South Bend next year. He's had his eyes on that job all year. Florida may just get lucky enough to land Butch Davis, who resurrected Miami from the thug background it had before him.

    Interesting Rumors here in Buckeyeland:

    A. Chris Spielman who hosts and mid-day sports talk show is saying Bob Stoops is going to take the Florida job. This is according to his "sources". I don't believe it but Spielman isn't yor typical talk show host who slings craps on teh wall to see what sticks.

    B. Stories out of ESPN (specially Wilbon) are saying Ohio State is also talking to Urban Meyer. There is 2 different theories. The first is the latest round of Mo Clarett is actually getting the Bucks in trouble and it could cost Tress his job. The 2nd and more likely is our AD (Andy Geiger) is retiring in the next couple of years. Tressel ultimtely wants to be the AD, so there could be a deal to say Urban come to OSU run the offense for a year or two and then you become the HC when Geiger retires. THat sounds more realistic but I would question why someone would pass up being a head coach at major program to be an OC for another major program with the promise (and we all know promises are broken) to be the HC in a couple years.

Ken Hatfield is also supremely qualified for the ND job. Imagine what the wishbone could do to the big 10. We're talking about revolutionizing the game as we know it.

People at Rice want RC Slocum to replace Kenny.

Maybe, if Meyer was so intent on designing new offenses that he totally missed the news about Franchione and Alabama.

    The Urbanization of Notre Dame.

Don't you think that the timing of this was to ensure ND first shot at Urban Meyer?

OK, since no one would bite, Mack Brown would be the perfect coach for Notre Dame. Great recruiter and OU's not on their schedule for the foreseeable future.

Watching ESPNNEWS and at the bottom it says

"Sources say Urban Meyer to accept Florida job"

Now what does Notre Dame do? They fired Ty to get the hot coach and it looks like they won't get him.

everything I've heard is that the ND administration didn't bite on Meyer's plans for football (LOL WINNING LOLOOLOIOUJN), nor would they agree to relax admission standards.
