Trying to defeat him (his Spirit) is like trying to chew up and swallow a steel-toed safety boot.

    Just ain't happening.

    He has to stay!

I like his attitude but you still need to have actual basketball skills, which he lacks.

Anybody that says Alpi lacks skills is not a basketballer.

    He was fine last year

I think he deserves us chalking this up to Udoka and Kati

tbh we gotta be better about supporting our home grown talent. Having a no loyalty snake like Durant make us turn on our guys that have given to this team is not a good look

For all the talk about Amen and Sengun not fitting together, I feel like we haven't discussed enough that Sengun and Reed don't fit together well defensively. Their minutes were staggered heavily last night, that's how we were able to actually get stops. As a duo, they've been targeted repeatedly this series and have been getting abused by the likes of Marcus Smart.

I can see the perspective that Sengun doesn't fit with Amen on offense and doesn't fit with Reed on defense, so he's the easiest one to swap out to make things work better. But at the same time, there's something to be said for... Sengun is just a much better player than Reed Sheppard right now. It's not really all that close. Reed has played at the level of an above-average 6th man for one season, Sengun has played at a fringe / borderline all-star level for three seasons.

Also, the Amen/Sengun thing is one player learning to shoot away from being fixed. I'd argue that historically we've seen that more often than players drastically improving their defense.

The counter-argument to all of that would be, it's easier to hide a poor defensive guard than a poor defensive center. And, sure.

I don't know the answer to fixing these issues, but I don't think we should entirely rule out the possibility that the Amen/Sengun problem could be fixed by in-house development... or the possibility that if that happens (a big if, I'll grant), and it becomes a choice between Sengun and Reed Sheppard, Reed might be the one who should go.

Reed, this season was not close to how Sengun played prior to mid-November 2025. After mid-November, Sengun just was not a much better player than Reed.

What is your reasoning behind thinking this, out of curiosity? Just eye test, or...?

Statistically, even just for that specific period, Sengun still fares much better in virtually every statistical category I can find, except of course when it comes to three pointers. Even the advanced catch-all metrics give Sengun a significant edge (VORP, win shares, BPM, etc), although Reed does fare somewhat better by those measures than when looking at traditional box score stats.

I think sometimes its his complete drop off in defense, that scares people to the point, where he just lets anyone
bully him down low. I know Adams is training him to get better at this. We hope for the best.

Will we ever get pre broken ankle Sengun back. That guy was a beast. Ever since that devastating injury he’s lost a lot of touch around the rim.

    He is a tough player.

Maybe that’s why he misses his soft bunnies so much. <— I think there’s actually some logic to this

If you decide to keep him you have to build the roster around him period. That means, a stretch 5 and more shooting never hurts.

That is a ridiculous amount of contested shots. If we only had a coach with an offensive system for easier shots...

Ideally a lot of those would be converted into assists instead, but we don't get guys open often enough because our system and roster construction both suck. Some of that is on Alpi though, he does take some contested shots where he had a better option available.

I've seen our guys not moving and cutting, lots of standing around. Alpi takes what is given the vast majority of the time. If only we had a competent coach to fix those lack of offense system issues...

He can get a bit too emotional in the negative sense but he certainly has that competitive spirit in him where he doesn't give up or back down.

We need a true C to help him out. Ironically, Clingan would be a good pairing.

Clinging has been awful so far in the playoffs, been exposed alot. Still young though.
