I'd love to see us snag Mike Washington Jr today. I'd even trade up for him. We can use young quality depth in our running game.
I wasn't worried about RB in this draft, because there were far too few draftable prospects. Mike Washington and Jonah Coleman are available still, so we will see. Travis Burke and Enrique Cruz are the last draftable developmental OT prospect that I see left. You could draft OT Isaiah World and stash him on IR (ACL surgery) next year. There is a large cluster of LB and safety prospects remaining. I would bet one of the Texans 4th round picks is traded for additional picks.
The Browns should draft QB Garrett Nussmeier today. Two of the QB's on their roster are not NFL quarterbacks, and the third is still on the roster because it's to expensive to cut him.
Nice try but most fans will never understand this, or don’t want to. They’re too invested in their own important mock drafts based on the media’s mock drafts, and trying to convince them it’s a waste of time is futile.
Have you done an analysis to see who gets it right more often than not, the media created lists or the individual team boards? The media created lists are sometimes created by people who have a long history of analyzing football players. So, I think there is some reason to consider them somewhat useful. I suspect some teams might be far better off by using the media created lists. I am somewhat concerned when the Texans pick a player a couple of rounds ahead of where they were predicted to be picked. But, I haven’t done any research to see if those concerns are warranted.
I personally like Coleman. Jonah is unique runner, has good hands, his a great blocker in pass pro and was an Academic All-American to boot. The other guy I really like because of his versatility is Eli Heidenreich who can fit in a hybrid role as a RB/WR/ST ace.
No, I haven’t personally done a deep dive on it. I’d actually be interested to see a real study comparing that. From what I’ve seen, from reading comparison articles and following the draft across multiple boards, the big boards and mock drafts tend to fall apart pretty quickly once you get past the very top picks. The first few picks are usually close, but after that, you see a lot of variation, reshuffling, and misses. I’m probably being generous even saying top 10. That’s not really a knock on the media. It’s just the reality of what they’re working with and the pool of players involved. They don’t have access to team interviews, medicals, full scouting reports, or scheme-specific evaluations. They’re projecting from the outside. Sometimes with wrong information from sources feeding them BS. I do think consensus boards are useful for fans. They give us a general sense of how players are viewed and where they might go. But they’re not really designed to outperform team boards. They’re more of a snapshot of public opinion. Especially the Consensus Boards
I like Coleman too. He never fumbles. But I think fur the Texans I'd go Randall. His ceiling is higher at his size/speed even if his floor is lower than Coleman's.
I think we are in gamble territory some today. There is solid OL depth out there too, so we don’t need to force it. I’d take the gamble on McCoy if he’s still there. There’s just too much upside at this point. Sounds like the next injury to the same knee is career ending per reports, so it makes teams nervous. Upside is huge though. Would like to see a RB today, but with a few there, McCoy is the better value gamble initially and then can pick of Washington/Coleman if we want next. If neither is there, wait for Randall later. I also take the gamble on Perkins soon too. If we really see Washington/Coleman/Randall in the same value cluster, I’d prefer we see McCoy and then Perkins this round. Frees up any remaining moves for weapons and OL for the rest of the draft.
What did you think about the crowd size in Pittsburgh during the draft? To me it seemed smaller than the crowds in the previous years. I know this may sound blasphemous, but the draft in Nashville was the best. The city is built for hospitality it's drivable for fans in the East Coast, South, and Midwest.
I'd probably trade 117 to pick up additional swings in the 5-7 rounds. I might grab Michael Trigg or Jeff Caldwell at 106 to add a red zone weapon. I'd also consider Jalon Kilgore and Kyle Louis there too.
Beef up front works for me. We have to know, this year, if CJ is it or not. He's getting protection across these picks. No excuses.
Another run-blocking lineman (guard) that also played Center a couple games for Oklahoma last year. It would appear the Texans’ answer to CJ’s struggles is less to protect him in the passing game, and more to lean on their defense w/ a solid run game based on (2) linemen and TE selected
