Simple question. If you had to keep only one of these guys, which would you keep and why? Would love to hear how you would build the team around the one you prefer. You don’t have to consider them stars. I’ve intentionally left out the options of both or neither. Trying to understand where the board sits on this.
I think in terms of...would I regret trading this guy away? If Amen gets more outside shooting touch, he becomes pretty hard to stop. I also love his mentality, always plays hard, and he can dominate games while scoring under 10 points. I'm not sure you can 'build' around him but he still has superstar potential. I feel like if we sped up the pace of games he'd look a lot more like prime Westbrook, playing so much half-court kind of plays to his weaknesses right now. Sengun gets saucy sometimes and when he's on he's fun to watch but as the seasons go on it starts to seem that this is what he is. I'm not seeing the potential of him to take things to the next level here, he's a fringe all-star, which is still a good player, but not one you build around, one you add to a team that's missing something.
I've gone back and forth and as of 4/22/26, I lean towards Sengun. I reserve the right to change my mind several more times. I'll copy and paste this from the Sengun thread: Because of the above, I think Sengun has the most superstar primary playmaker potential. If Sengun is scoring that much unassisted with this lower bball IQ roster and coaching staff, then how good can he be with more spacing and a different type of offensive system? Amen seems more like a Paul George superstar, if he can ever remotely shoot while Sengun would be more Jokic like if he can shoot.
As much as I like sengun, Amen is just defensively and offensively better. Amen. That was very hard decision for me .. crys.
Neither. Amen is a good player but he’ll never be the star of this team, most people are banking on him to develop a jump shot but it’ll never happen, it’s only a few guys who did like Kidd, The Rockets need to what Memphis did sell high on both players and hit the reset button.
Truth is the odds are neither will ever be a #1 option (I understand why you didn't include that option because it doesn't tell us much if we're thinking they can't fit together long term). That said, I think Sengun, while probably a slightly better player right now on his average night, is more likely to just be what he is at this point, and Amen is the more likely of the two to get significantly better than he is now. Amen's best physical traits are also elite, while Sengun's (his height/strength) are not, which gives Amen both more room for growth as a player and a higher floor when he has a rough game offensively. I have a hunch, but could be wrong, that Sengun is basically playing for his continued presence on this team right now, whereas Amen is probably safe for at least one more season (barring some surprising superstar shaking loose). It takes two to tango and all that, so who knows what will actually happen in the offseason, but I suspect the Rockets will look more seriously at trading Sengun if he doesn't bounce back in a big way the rest of this playoff series.
I will also add in favor of Sengun is the international play which is another feather in the cap. Amen simply doesn't have the same type of accolades from his youth or in the Elite 8.
What star available?, plz don't make this into another Gianus thread plz..... Honestly you keep both cause you'll get rape in a trade. Rebuild for pics? Maybe....
First: you don't build around neither therefore Second: you don't keep either Now if you want to keep the same group of players you only keep one, losing seems more entertaining with Sengun. But if you want to have a contender, bring in the right pieces (including a true PG), and you want to keep one, I'd keep Sengun, remember with a PG Sengun is relieved from being a pseudo-PG. With a true PG and shooters who can complement a team better? To me it's a player who can post up, Sengun. Think about this: was Amen considered for DPOY? How many votes?
Sengun I has no exceptional traits whether physically, mentally, or skillwise. He is not a savant like Harden, nor a shooter like Jokic, not a physical freak like Amen. It’s easy who you pick hence the poll results
Nobody cares about trash Euro hoops, we talking about the NBA, the only league with athletic freak 7 footers up and down rosters that give Sengun problems
