The Astros stunk all to hell in the beginning, even left for dead you might say and then we end up going to the playoffs and doing well......

Maybe this is how the Rockets will do.

The ole saying Wish in one hand and @#$@ in the other and see which one comes out first.

    United we win..........:p

If the Astros traded away Biggio, Lane, Ensberg (or Lamb), Everett, Bagwell, and Kent for what is essentially one player, and then still expected to compete for the title (or even make the playoffs) your comparison would be a bit more appropriate.

As it is, we got what we deserved, and we'll suffer until the problem is corrected.

I might be in the minority, but I think everything went to hell very quickly.

This is a case of people trying too hard.

We get this "superstar" with unlimited potential in Yao Ming, but Rudy doesn't take us to the playoffs with the rookie, so he's gone in an attempt to find someone who can take us to the playoffs.

We bring in Van Gundy, make it to the playoffs (hooray) but end up losing close games to the Western Conference Champs. What a bunch of failures.

So we trade away 3/5 of our starting *playoff* lineup, ruin the team's chemistry, and receive one superstar and a bunch of trash.

    What is wrong with people?

We had nowhere to go but up. Yao Ming was going to get better. Steve was going to get better. Everyone was going to learn to work together, and we were going to be contenders.

    Too late now.

And for the record, I was against the trade from day one, a fact which is supportable by my activity in the trade threads from a while ago. So this is not a case of a bandwagoning, woeful fan who's decided that a couple losses are the end of the world.

But at least be honest. We were close to being good last year.

How close are we this year?

And how many of you are even having fun watching this team anymore?

true, I guess when you have great expectations, your team has to fail MISERABLY to wake up and start winning.

Actually I believe the saying is wish in one hand and **** in the other and see which one fills up first. But whatever.

Well, the Rockets would have to fire their head coach first...

IF we are gonna be like the Stros, we should've signed 2 high profile Free agents this offseason, say KMart and Nash, and then we need to trade Spoon and Gaines for another star player with an expiring contract, say Shareef, before the trade deadline and then we need to fire Van Gundy and hire a former player who was high energy, say Mario Elie. Wala, we lose in the WC finals to the Spurs.

I hope you are right, but the Astros actually started out the season very hot and showed what a great team they could be. After that is when they went into the tank. I haven't seen anything close to a true flash of brillance from this team.

This team as is won't ever have it ... I hope I'm wrong but I truly think we need more pieces.

I think you have the most commomn sense on this board .I been saying the excat same things to the tee from day on also.all the points you just made I been telling alot of bandwangoners in houston .our defense was right up there with detroit last year .another year and there would have been even more chemistry, now I feel like we started back over .

You feel like that because that's exactly what we did.

Francis and Yao seemed like they genuinely liked each other. They seemed to be friends.

Chemistry was shot straight to hell, and we probably damaged our relationship with Yao Ming.

After we got rid of Moochie, Yao publicly voiced his displeasure with trades. He talked about how uncomfortable they made him, as he could not relate, having no prior experience in Chinese basketball.

    So what do we do?

We trade away more than half of our starting lineup.

We must be really dedicated to keeping Yao here.

Maybe this has a little something to do with his poor play this year.

OH, CRAP... I have been posting AGAINST firing JVG, but one thing that came up as I cheered my ROCKETS on was that the 'Stros cut heads midway through season... ouch.

    :(

We are talking about two different teams in two different sports. No connection whatsoever, none. Do Clippers go anywhere after a bad start year in and out? I dont see Dolphis is going anywhere this year either.

You might be right. This team has lots of problems and now it's a chore just to watch them play this brand of ugly basketball.

I admit, In the beginning I was optimistic about this trade, I had hope because there's no way you can keep talent like Yao or McGrady down. I still have hope but I am extremely disappointed in this start of the season. We are behind the Lakers and the Clippers in the standings. Okay, maybe I'll buy the Lakers being in front of us but the Clippers?? The freakin' Clippers? C'mon, something needs to give here. From the looks of it, if other teams keep playing the way they are, it's gong to be very difficult for the Rockets to even just make the playoffs. They need to wake up and fast.

    a) We got back a solid backup point in Lue...something we've always wanted here. Problem is, no true starter as of yet..

    b) Steve was going to get better? I think he had hit his peak in Houston with Yao. Everyone (yourself probably included?) wanted the offense to funnel through Yao. That means less Stevie. That meant another season suffering through poor shooting and a constricted offense...JVG or not, if the offense goes through Yao, Steve doesn't have the season he's having this year in Orlando.

    c) We weren't going to be contenders this year with that same team. Please...it'd be another season of the same. Mayyybe 2nd round, but I can't see that team going any further without some changes.

    d) I'll admit, I'm not having much fun watching. But I do believe things will change by about January. If you can with such certainty things about last year's team...I'm pretty sure this team will gel and have their stuff together by the All star break.

Since last year threads popping up about Steve being the problem, I have been saying that it is JVG that is causing the problem.....

look at Tmac numbers... so wat if he is the 2 times scoring champ? he suffered under JVG and is now saying he can't get himself into the rhythm in JVG's offense.....

I do hope the Rockets turn things around.... but if there are no changes to the coaching and role players... I dun see them getting it done this season.... worse scenario.... Lottery.....

ummm...is JVG really to blame for Yao's lack of production?? wouldn't Yao benefit MOST from a JVG style offense?? a slow-down, low-post game should suit Yao best. the fact that it does not concerns me more than anything...not because of JVG, but because of Yao.

Which goes back to what I am saying.

I think that Yao's poor play can be attributed to his dissatisfaction with the complete makeover of our team.

    I can sympathize.
