Actualy up till 93-94 Season, the rockets had entertained alot of offers for Olajuwon. but after Hakeem went nuts after those 2 back 2 back Titles, there was noway we were ever gonna trade him anytime soon.

This LOPEZ's guy is full of crap. How can you blame all of our bad plays on Yao when he averages about the same points, pulled down only ONE less rebounds than last season. Didn't we have Tmac, who everyone thinks is better than Francis, and rest of the players JVG hand-picked? Why isn't the problem the coach?

We are just 14 games into this 82 games long season, so it's too early to press the PANIC button. Let's wait until all-star break before make any evaluation.

Why are you people thinking of even trading Yao? Don't you realize that without a big man, T-Mac will be just like his old self with the Magic? Yao is a Rocket lifer, and I'm sure he will improve his numbers next game.

Trade Yao? Are you guys crazy? Do you want a Houston Magic? If I were Yao, I would choose to be a free agent after next season so that I won't be traded. And for Rockets, if they want to sign him they have to put on big money on him, too big to make a future trade. So Rockets either gets nothing, or just count on Yao. And I bet you guys won't be dissapointed in 2 years.

Yao is really being hammered by the sports media right now.

There's an unflattering article about him in the new ESPN magazine about his poor rebounding, and blocking. The ESPN article also touched on Yao maybe not reaching his potential.

Also, when I read articles on Amare Stoudemire, there's usually a zinger there against Yao--along the lines of Yao getting all the hype while Amare (who is playing the center position) is so much better. (statistically at least)

I hope he uses the criticism for motivation to get better like he did his rookie year.

    Trade Yao???

Since Ewing has been here he has turned soft and slow - Just like Ewing.

Damn it Hakeem, why did you leave the game?

I wouldn't mind having the Sky-hook king (KAJ) himself come in and help Yao.

but trade Yao??? Please. That's just plain stupid.

Fire Ewing - Let's face it, he sucks!!!

Yao is not fulfilling his potential.

He has not become the player he can be, the only one stopping this from happening is Yao.

Yao can be as good as he wants to be, maybe he just doesn't want it bad enough.

Potential is nice in draft prospects but third year pros should be beyond that. Yao, when he is on, has a nice offensive arsenal but his lack of rebounding is inexcusable. Yes the team has been changed but I do not see how that afects his rebounding. Rebounding is about desire and descipline; if in his third year he does not grasp what it takes to grab a board I submit he will never develop that part of his game. Given his inconsistency on the offensive end , his lack of rebounding and his foul prone defense. It should not surprise anyone that people are asking for trades. At the very least somebody needs to light a fire under his butt.

Yao will be fine. We just need an athletic 4 to cover his slow lateral quickness.

We have to get a 4!!!!!!

    A real 4.

We have to start looking at Yao as a Rik Smits type player. Smits had a young Antonio Davis and Dale Davis next to him in Indiana and Yao needs the same.

Yao is not a bad player, but we have to start looking at him as a limited player that's not great. Surround Yao and McGraddy with the right players and we will go far.

    We've seen this before.

Yao is going to read this and play fantastic basketball the next game...and then a week later he'll go right back to playing terrible basketball.

Then Van Gundy or a sports writer will bash Yao again and he'll play great again...then go right back into his shell.

It's a never ending cycle. The guy needs CONSTANT motivation. Great players know how to motivate themselves. Yao on the other hand, constantly needs someone to give him a reason to play hard. This reminds me very much of Kelvin Cato way back when he was the whipping boy in Houson.

I think he needs someone to TEACH him
I do not think he has that

what you looking for is something Hakeem and Jordan did
they went out and found folx to help them
They had the drive to improve in the off season.

    Yao has no off Season
and as far as I can see. . . no one is helping/teaching him
    during the season

QUESTION: What improvement have we seen in Yao?

I know this. . . He improved over the course of his rookie year
    but since then ???

It is a poor artist that blames his tools
it is a poor coach that blames his players

IF THIS IS WHAT YAO REQUIRES
    *then give it to him*
    RESULTS!!!
that is what a Coach is for
to GET THE BEST OUT OF HIS PLAYERs

Thing is, if you trade Yao, you will get atleast one if not two all-stars in return. This team would in no way resemble the Magic. It is too early to give up hope on Yao, but blaming JVG for his terrible play is flat out stupid. Rocket River, JVG has never blamed any player for a loss, he takes all the blame. The problem is, he doesn't deserve it, but he takes it to deflect it off his players. Yao is our corner store, we will lose every single game if he finishes with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 TO's. That is truely pathetic for a guy we spent so much trouble bringing over and getting him accustomed.

Unfortunately, yes the Rockets will get rid of JVG before Yao. Simple formula, Yao makes them more money.

    Keep the faith.

Rockets develop Yao to the wrong direction. What a pathetic thing for both Rockets and Yao.

Clearly Yao's muscle type is much different from Shark's. After Yao gains 30 pounds, he is much slower than before. His defense is even worse than his rockie year. On offensive end, it seems low post is his ONLY weapon. This guy no long has the confidence to shoot jumpers from 18 feet.

How much success was Yao going to have as a stick player shooting 18 foot jumpshots his entire career? Not enough to be considered a franchise player.
