It’s not on either of them as our 32 year old slow 40% fg shootin superstar was out for the season and no moves were made cause we only had 9 months to do it so it “just wasn’t our year”. Next year a 33 year old ACL recovering point guard takes us to the promiseland!!!
Didn’t know about the Westbrook trade but that was a mediocre move. More evidence that our GM is mediocre.
Going to derail a bit. People make suicidal comments, even as jokes, must be taken seriously. Humor is often used to deflect or hide intentions.
First - that transcript doesn't do Stone any favors, he cannot put together a coherent sentence. Having said that, it doesn't mean he isn't smart or capable. Some people just do not speak well or are nervous. Still --- I am so sick of hearing Stone talk about injuries this year. The Rockets having bad injuries was very foreseeable because Stone targeted players with injury concerns and knew that guys on the team like Eason and Adams had histories of injuries and that FVV was getting older and had a LOT of milage. Stone got KD, Adams and DFS at the prices he did because all of them were getting older and had known injury issues and histories. If anything, the Rockets have very lucky that Durant hasn't missed 25-40 games this season. Adams has recently only had one healthy year, and it was when he played like 12-13 minutes a night. DFS' injury issues were roundly discussed in the media last season and this off season. FVV turned 32 this year and averaged like 36-37 minutes a night the last 5 years --- that is heavy milage. So, either Stone is clueless (not likely) or the excuse of injuries and it "not being our year" is disingenuous because he went after guys with red flags with injuries.
Just because you keep saying it doesn't make it true. It could have been done but the cost was far too high. Charlotte sent out expiring contracts and 3 second round picks to land White. Your choices - DFS and at least a first round draft pick, maybe more because of the length of the contract and the fact that he played like crap. One of the 10 worst contracts in the league. You aren't moving that for a 2nd rounder. The other options - one of Reed or Amen. That ain't happening. Period. I mean, it works on NBA 2K with trade override on ..... but otherwise, not so much. There was literally no combination of salary paired with Tari that made the money work and stayed below the first apron.
Not only that, they play their starters in the top3 minutes in the league then we hear stone and Udoka b**** about injuries again
Sure it does. It shows he wasn’t just saying one line that you all focus on with such hatred and gives context. I also attached a video. It comes down to trust and you all don’t like or trust him in the first place
You don’t know how tough their position was or what they wanted. It was reported Sheppard and Eason were demanded as well as a first. Hornets had to get a third team involved to pull the deal. Deng isn’t trash. He’s a developing big man. Sexton is a legit combo guard borderline starter. White is making 13 mil. Rockets would have to send out 13 mil. And he’s a rental. It’s not fantasy trades. Trades are complex in reality and I would wager Stone wants Giannis or another star and saving assets
Stone talked about injuries for 21 seconds out of a 20 minute presser, a week removed from Adams' season ending surgery. What he said immediately following showed that he the answer to his infamous rhetorical question is no, based on record and offensive and defensive ratings. Even when reporters asked about FVV and Adams' injuries specifically he focused on how the current group performs and where they stood in relation to the rest of the NBA. He wasn't delusional about it either. While our rankings were good at the time, he noted that other teams were clearly better. He didn't even blame everything on injuries, noting that our youth and lack of continuity has caused issues. Y'all are acting like he can't stop beating the dead horse about injuries when he barely talked about them at all.
I don’t like or dislike him. I think he has been an average general manager. What I don’t like is this idea that he keeps pushing that these injuries came out of nowhere and ruined the season. He pursued and signed and resigned players that were older and have injury issues. In fairness to him, KD has worked out and has remained healthy. Adams and DFS have not stayed so healthy.
Stone thought this was 2k and turned off injuries while most of us just prayed to get 50 games out of FVV & KD and be healthy enough for playoffs Acting blindsided by injuries and not having plan B is first time I’m pretty disappointed in Stone. He probably put a lot of faith in Reed being better
He did gamble on those players. I understand the sentiment especially when DFS wasn’t even ready to play when the trade was made. But i don’t think he’s pushing any agendas. Reporters ask him about injuries and Fred etc and he responds. He hasn’t necessarily bemoaned our injury situation consistently or dwelled on this fact.
I was with Raf and Ime up until this offseason. I like KD, I’m not completely against trading Jalen Green or Dillon Brooks in a vacuum. But the devaluation of speed and total salary cap equity we now have locked up and are paying to be slow with Sengun (35) KD (40) Jabari (24) Adams (13) DFS (13) Capela (7) That’s 130 million a season spent on guys I legit think I could beat in a race up the court and back.
Yep, zero accountability, just like Ime. Reed IS good. Stone hired Ime who hasn't done him any favors. And, Stone wouldn't get in Ime's whack business to get Reed the burn earlier. Stone's lacking on many levels. Not trading Tari at the deadline was yet another example of not moving a player when he should have. This dude's had the luxury of a full on, longterm rebuild...with all sorts of margin for error.
