He was getting lost on defense all night, rough game for him. He’s not disciplined and needs to be coached out of his instincts to incessantly help to the paint as a 6’1 guard
Please cool the racial crap about Ime. It's disgusting and unwarranted. Totally fair to criticize anyone's coaching, but let's not bring race into it unless you have solid evidence that it's playing a role.
I'm talking about the 4th period when the game was in balance: Missed 3 at 8:47 Missed 3 at 7:19 Missed 3 at 6:23 Shouldn't he preferably -hit- one or more of those shots-? Also, he sat after that because he had been playing since midway through the 3rd period (4:53) - a 10+ minute stretch in which the Rockets got a big lead & then completely ran out of gas I mean, you don't have to be an Ime Udoka super fan (I'm not) to believe that Reed Sheppard (and fatigue etc) is part of the reason why Reed Sheppard did not hit his shots tonight when the Rockets really needed him to
Yeah you know what also helps the Rockets chance of winning? Playing against Washington and the other dregs teams Reed got his starts I know @DaDakota has been repeating this stock line all week but it's basically just a quirk that he is shouting loudly out of context If instead of worrying about who gets their name called, you go back & look at all of Reed's 30+ minute games you see that the record in those games is not nearly as gaudy (I forget but it's like 13-9 or something)
He seems to only target 2 folks. Tari can play endless minutes for 0 points multiple games in a row without consequence. And his past unprofessional behavior doesn’t really lend a lot of confidence but I agree we should leave that stuff out
Oh ok we're really doing this??? Newsflash bro The Rockets win at a 100% clip.....when.... .... Dorian Finney Smith starts Checkmate!
Intellectual dishonesty acting like an N =1 is the same as N= 1/4 of the season I don’t understand why people have to make arguments in such bad faith.
It's been leaving out some recurring team issues: - The Sheppard / Sengun pairing has been both a noticable and statistically bad defense pairing. As much as people want Sengun the one booted out, he is the 23 year old 2 time All Star. And not Sheppard - For the entire season, the "5th starter" has been shuffle of players. What looks like impulsive erratic changes, has actually been consistent approach the whole year. Josh Okogie went from starter for 30 games, to out the rotation. (To back to starting) Ime finally just said out loud. "That spot is matchup based". And its actually been working much better lately (possibly in spite of Ime, but the "5th starter" is a rotation of guys in it) - The entire sports world has 1 rare universal shared opinion, of: The Rockets NEED a POINT Guard. That turns into 2 options to believe: (A) Do the Rockers acquire a point guard? (B) Or, do the Rockets play Sheppard, or the PG's they already have? 'A' would have threatened Sheppard's time and usage even more. A conspiracy against Sheppard would have been a for sure PG option added over Sheppard. Or just trading Sheppard away. Unless it is an Ime "power struggle vs Stone", what is the point of keeping and playing Sheppard to hate him?
So no context huh? How about the games he starts and sucks and gets subbed out 5 minutes in and we win? The on off and net rating numbers show it's literally our worst starting lineup
@phx @GSW @UTA @UTA @IND @OKC SAC @MIA @WAS POR ATL MIA @CHI @min @MEM @NOP MIL UTA @GSW @phx Those are Reed's starts this season. 14 of the 20 games were on the road. The Rockets were 10-4 in those. Keep in mind, this has been a mediocre road team this season that finished 22-19. And in nearly half of those, the team was shorthanded. Reed never consistently started with the Core Four til the Atlanta game when he replaced Tari in the lineup. And on the topic of Atlanta, that was a red hot team on an 11 game winning streak when Reed was inserted into the starting lineup. The Rockets absolutely destroyed the Hawks that night. Plus the team won at OKC, and won twice at both Golden State and Phoenix. So let's not pretend most of Reed's wins as a starter were against the likes of the Wizards.
When exactly did that happen? Have you pulled the numbers? you’re arguing against a sample size that is a quarter of a season a large aggregate like that is supposed to control for that unless Reed is getting 4 minutes per game people have such a habit of ignoring what the numbers and eyes tell them is the truth
I wasn’t going to waste the time to pull it up but kudos you’re a better person and poster than I. @SelvianFly you have your sample, Though I’ve found people don’t really change their views despite facts and data
Yeah, other than the win at Phoenix the other night where Ime started Okogie in the 2nd half, Reed has not started games only to be benched after 5 minutes and barely play the rest of the way.
The coach that started "sturdy, gritty, high IQ, intangibles" Steven Adams 1/3rd of the games. Don't think any evidence is there
The other frustrating thing about this "Reed has started against only lousy teams" talking point is that even if it were true(and it absolutely isn't), are these fans completely memory holing the number of games the Rockets have lost this season to horrible or shorthanded opponents? Hell, they just dropped another one at home tonight. If the Rockets hadn't squandered games to the likes of the Pelicans, Kings, Blazers, Mavs, and Bulls(in fairness, Reed did start that one) all season long, we would comfortably be in the 3rd seed right now and resting our guys heading into the playoffs.
Dude first - read the whole post Second -This is the year 2026, we actually know what players statistical impact is when they are in the floor We don't have to rely on "game starts" as a proxy like you're some dope calling into AM Radio in 1983. We know exactly how much better/worse the Rockets perform when Sheppard is on the floor. It is a -3.7 on/off rating That is not consistent with a 80% winning percentage - (that would be like, IDK, +10.0 or so?) that you are parroting as part of the @DaDakota disinformation campaign This is not to say that Reed is bad - just that the people who say "16-4" are untrustworthy or dumb.
