Hubie Brown Resigns Due to health reasons Hubie Brown is stepping down as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. I bet that slow start had nothing to do with it.
Now Memphis is really screwed. They are not gelling this year, Gasol is hurt, and now they lose arguable the most solid coach in the league.
They are very likely headed for the lottery. The Grizz won't be sneaking up on anyone like they did last year.
Sorry KellyDwyer, I really don't get it - why is he a moron? I must confess I don't know anything about Hubie's situation - but is it not possible that Memphis' slow(ish) start was a factor? Why would a guy (in what he might have tagged his last year) persist in coaching a team to a "stumble" from the previous season?
Because coaches have left after slow starts all the time. There is no reason to doubt Brown's reasoning for leaving.
Sure its possible. but you have to also consider the guy is the oldest coach in the league. I don't know his age but he's up there, more than anyother coach is up there. And you have to weigh in the fact that he planned on bailing after this season was over. So you can't just say he bailed cause the ship was sinking. Not when the captain was already a greybeard, old, wise, and gone way beyond perfroming his task of duty. and stumble? well his team is stumbling but theyre not bumbling. and he is physically stumbling up and down the court line more than his team is stumbling. The good man is old Dr Nuegebauer,, very old. Imagine grandfather coaching an nba team,, traveling and holding daily practices and arguing with refs and dealing with sold out arenas and all that pre game stuff. grandpa won't put up with all that. and he shouldnt have to. we take care of our elders. and hubie brown should be apperciated and loved and cherished. don't be suspicious of wise grey beards who have left a sweet indention on the sport you love my friend.
A 5-7 start is by no means a reason to leave your job especially if you won coach of the year a few months earlier. However he is 71 years old and had health issues already last year so thats a by far more likely reson why he has to step down now.
early rumors on who is going to be replacing Brown as head coach in Memphis are: Mike Fratello, Erik Mussleman, and George Karl http://msn.foxsports.com/name/FS/rumors
It's sad to see Hubie leave. He is a very fine coach who is very dedicated to the game. If his health was good I think he would have stayed till the end of the season. I hope he will get better.
could you think of a worse fit in memphis than mike fratello? also, this makes the west a little less crowded. memphis is out, but seattle is a big shock....still our chances just improved.
Well my sig still applies. Remeber we have been without our 2nd best player and catalyst the entire season. All we are looking to do is bring the new year in at .500 or better. However, I will agree Fratello does not seem like a good fit but neither did Hubie.
Goodnes.s. . I cringe at the thought of a Primetime Memphis v Rockets game now Eric Musselman maybe a better choice IMO Rocket River
People that just think of Fratello as the walk it up guy from the Cavs aren't old enough to remember him with the Hawks (or are so old they forgot). Fratello won't make Memphis into the slowest team in the world. He'll coach them to their strengths. He's a solid, but probably not great, coach.
It could be that Brown's health problems are part of the reason that they've stumbled out of the starting block, instead of the other way around. I like Fratello. Unfortunately for him, it seems his rep was crystallized when he was coaching a bad team.
