Yeah he's lost the plot, nobody asked him to sell his soul to play in the NBA. So pretending he's out because he's talking about Jesus is just not true. Getting on a commercial airplane to talk about all of this also shows he's out of touch with everything. Not crazy, but he's definitely off balance and hopefully he has people he trusts so he can channel his frustration, anger and new found spirituality in a healthy way.

Not sure why you are bringing D&D to GARM. But if you are going to do so, at least understand how America works first. Ivey is absolutely allowed to say what he said. He's not getting jailed or even fined for his words. The police aren't at his door interrogating him. Now, his employer being allowed to fire him for saying these things has always been part of American culture. If you don't believe me ask someone you know who works for a living whether they can be punished or even fired for saying this stuff in the workplace.

I don't think his comments were the reason he was cut -- I think they were the excuse the Bulls needed to drop someone who they'd decided wasn't going to help them at all.

If he was in any way helping the team, or they thought he would in the near future, he wouldn’t have been cut.

That maybe true for an ordinary company. But it's a basketball team. Winning on the basketball court is everything to its "customers" (fans). If he's a useful player for them, I doubt that whatever he said would affect their bottom line.

Agreed. Kyrie publicly endorsed a very anti-semetic book in a league in which the commissioner is Jewish. Was he cut? Of course not. He's really good at basketball. That's before we get into the Miles Bridges and Kevin Porter Jr's of the world.

If Jaden Ivey was good at basketball then they would have had him work with the PR department to move past this and he'd still be on their roster.

If you just watch the clips or read the summaries you might think he just found God or something but remember his videos are over an hour long and there are multiple of them. His core thesis of "repent for the judgement day" doesn't really take more than a minute to get out there. If you try to go through one full video of his rants then it really does look like he's having a psychotic episode. He's just repeating the same drivel over and over for an hour. In one of the videos he even says his wife doesn't talk to him anymore. The dude is unwell.

If he gets healthy again he will be a good player.

They cut him because of his religious views and they thought his views would hurt their brand and instead record numbers of fans are buying his jersey's So yes this is relevant even though he's currently injured.

Agreed, but he believes in the Sodom and Gaumora (SP?) part of the bible. Many here dont and that's fine. This has nothing to do with hate speech this has to do with HIS interpretation of the bible.

the tolerance level that a sports org has for TMI, especially if controversial will vary. i personally cringe every time CJ splays himself out for christ but i guess the texans are all fine with excessive god bothering.

He hasn’t been healthy consistent in his NBA career. For a player whose entire game is athleticism, that’s a problem.

The Jersey sales are a short term bump. He’ll be forgotten about like the other mediocre NBA head cases over time.

He needs Zyprexa and a psychiatrist

Reportedly the religious stuff dates back to his Detroit days. Being injured, not getting the extension, and maybe other things in his life got him closer to God. Normally that's not a bad thing.

People have views, but this young generation feeling the need to record themselves and broadcast it to the world.

You don't think sports players can get cancelled? You don't think people will walk away with their money if they don't like the players? I've got a flying pig if you're interested, only tree fiddy?

Yup, Kyrie also said stuff, but Kyrie could still ball. Ivey wasn't worth the headache for the Bulls.

NBA players and self awareness. Bulls clear their cap sheet, so many of the current players are expendable. Should not be giving the org any reasons to not keep him around.

People have spoken with their wallets and people agree with JI much more than some on here would like to admit.

Are people that riled up? Or are people using this on both sides as an opportunity for social engagement? I saw a bunch of stuff this morning about Ivey being cut for being a Christian. Appears more so he was cut for saying things that would upset a key demographic the NBA is clearly going after (Pride night started in 2017, I think). And that he wasn't good enough to overcome denigrating (if that's what he did, I only saw the unrighteousness quote) a group of customers. Felt the same for Kaepernick. He wasn't good enough to overcome being a distraction and pissing off a lot of NFL customers.

Kyrie? He says absolutely insane things and shares blatantly antisemitic media and he still has a job. Why? Because he has enough talent to make up for any potential financial loss due to burning a fanbase.

Business isn't in the business of losing money.
