Lance throwing knuckle curves, Yordan hitting bombs, and Altuve going 4 for 4. All is right in the Astros world tonight.
2 reasons… I ultimately want Correa, Paredes, Pena, Altuve, Walker, and Yordan in the lineup everyday. So, Yordan in left makes sense as you can DH Altuve and Paredes more. You can give Correa breaks and DH him too. Yordan can still DH but I like the flexibility that making him our predominate Left fielder brings. Lopes can play LF in the more spacious ballparks and in the late innings of games we are winning. 2. Yordan hits better when he plays LF. While some may write this off, I think it’s worth testing a little.
Lance's performance was like Jack Nickolas' last major victory. Totally unexpected because you thought his time had passed. But a true feel good moment for someone who used to be at the top. Now we have to figure out if this is a career resurrection or simply a magic moment.
Holy crap - had to miss the game and just saw the box score. I had to pinch myself to ensure I wasn’t still in a dream about 2017. June last year if you’d said we’d have McCuller spinning gems, Altuve hitting bombs, Correa playing short and Walker with a .900 OPS, I’d have said you were insane. Father Time always wins, but sometimes he takes a day off.
It has been like that the last 2 games. I have to mute the commercials because it is so loud compared to the play by play. I hear volume swells like they are working on it but i can barely hear them.
Looking at LMJ's pitch mix, they really abandoned the sweeper, at least according to statcast. His velo was up a tick, but still way down from his prime. I think the biggest thing was simply command. He wasn't falling behind hitters and being forced into throwing predictable fastballs or get me over breaking balls and just in general pitching defensively. He has never been a command pitcher, even at his best. We'll see if he can maintain it it because he will have to have success now. As long as he can keep his breaking stuff outside the zone in play for the hitters he'll have a chance. It's just as awesome as it always has been.
Yep, prime Lance with 3 mph less on his FB but with improved command is still a ToRP. But if he loses that command, he’s toast.
Wow.....just WOW, I was 100% wrong about Lance, I didn't think he could do this but DAM that was so fun last night, I never had a doubt we would lose that one, it was a dominant win and Altuve`s and Yordan`s bombs were awesome Man, I love the day after a major win like that, gotta a little pep in my step today
As good as Lance was (and he was legit great), there were 2 balls hit with men on base that went barely foul that would have been for extra bases, so he was a minor shift in luck away from giving up 5+ runs. Lance alluded to that in the post game interview so he knows, and it should not take away from the credit he gets for carrying the rotation the first time through.
Very happy and I really hope we can see 75+% of this Lance throughout 2026. Let's not forget that he had back to back 6 inning starts with 19 Ks and only 2 BB last year. By all accounts he has worked very hard and talent is talent. I REALLY hope he is back AND his body can hold up over 25+ or even 20+ starts. But I'm still anxious over his next start which should be Sunday in Sacramento vs the A's. Baby steps.
From only scoring 2 runs in the first 2 games.....to being the AL leader in runs scored (30). Offense is en fuego. I'm so happy to see Lance dominating in his start. Dude could have mailed it in after the injury and pay day... Bury him in the H.
presumably, it would have cost them Duran or wilyer abreu. Thats a bit of a push. Maybe they have another OF bat that would do better than Durban, but I don’t think it would be an impact bat.
