Shaq is more mobile? Wilt Chamberlain was a freaking track star for crying out loud, you don't get much more mobile than that.

"There just hasn't been anyone like him" means something completely different than "He's the best center of all time."

I could argue that there hasn't been anyone like Matt Bullard or Chucky Brown. That doesn't mean they're the best ever.

Of course not, but what I mean by that is that Wilt Chamberlain had some of the same deficiencies in his game as Shaq does -- ft shooting, outside shooting. IMO, Wilt's absurd numbers warrant him the nod ahead of Shaq. Although I'm not fully certain whether I'd put Wilt or Kareem there at third.

You're kidding me. Shaq is nowhere even close to Olajuwon. He does not have any real talent. Anyone who plays basketball even a little could be as good or better than him if they were his size. His size is all he got. He has no jump shot. He has to jump about a foot to dunk. All he can do are layups, dunks, and his "jump-hook" Wonder why he can't shoot free throws? it's because he has no shot whatsoever, no moves whatsoever, and no talent, just alot of size to overpower people and make layups which all of us could do if we were 7 foot, 320. Hakeem had moves, could shoot outside shots, free throws, and is the best center ever, period.
I'm not going to diss robert horry for his opinion because it is his opinion, but it is wrong. Shaq may be the most dominant center ever, but not best. Shaq even said that himself

great point. Shaq is a great center in an era of avg to poor centers. Dream was a great center in an era of great centers.

Didn't Shaq just completely destroy the Defensive Player of the Year and probably one of the best defensive centers ever? And he did put up about 27 a game 6 years ago in a series against Hakeem.

That's completely ludicrous. It's sickening how much they try to hype up Shaquille O'Neal. He had no business being voted one of the 50 Greatest Players of All Time, saying he's better than the Big Three is insane, and I'd take Olajuwon in his prime over Shaq as well. And Kobe the second-greatest guard ever? Above Magic and the Big O and behind only Mike? Please...

Exactly...all the people who lavish praise on Shaq and fawn about how dominant he is convieniently neglect to mention that the center position is currently at the weakest it's ever been. Shaq didn't become dominant until the Olajuwons, Ewings, Robinsons, etc. all past their primes. Hmmm...interesting isn't it? There are no Chamberlains, Russells, Jabbars, Nate Thurmonds, Willis Reeds, Wes Unselds, Bob Laniers, Dave Cowens, Walt Bellamys today that there used to be to provide Shaq some competition, yet suddenly he's BETTER than them? Who the hell is he going against? People need to get a reality check before they make ridiculous statements...

I'm glad that someone remembers this, that Wilt ran track. The people who talk about how much more mobile, faster, quicker, Shaq is than Wilt have obviously forgotten this or convieniently neglected to mention it. Can you picture Shaq running track? lol

I think a difference should be noted between "best" and "most dominant." I would have no problem with Horry saying that Shaq is the most dominant center, because a realistic argument could be made for that assertion. However, in terms of talent (by this I mean "best", I think Hakeem takes the cake. During the championship years he literally had no weaknesses. I think he was the first center in NBA history to start facing people up from 20 feet and then just doing em, whether it be popping the J or driving to the basket.

With Shaq, his game has limitations, but he's so dominant they don't really matter unless it's a close enough game to send him to the line. The sad thing is though, in the annals of history, Shaq will always be ahead of Hakeem on that all time center list in the eye of public opinion nationwide...especially if he gets a few more rings.

But who is he "dominating"? There's a pronounced dearth of talent at the center position today. All of the good centers in the league are all past there prime. Alonzo Mourning has the kidney problem. Who does that leave, Dikembe Mutumbo? Wilt played against Russell--the greatest defensive player who ever lived, Nate Thurmond, Willis Reed, Walt Bellamy, Dave Cowens, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wes Unseld, et al...

I guess Larry Brown agrees with Horry.

    http://espn.go.com/magazine/bembry_20010616.html

"Allan Houston once said you have to have the best defensive player in the league to play against him, and we had that," said Sixers' coach Larry Brown. "(Shaq) is as good as it gets. And I've never seen a better player in my life. And I mean that."
