    Insider, no link....

Why are the Rockets off to such an uneven start? Coach Jeff Van Gundy is blaming himself. "You, as another coach, would be saying, 'That coach has no clue what he's doing,'" Van Gundy said in the Houston Chronicle. "So, that's what I'm saying when I look at myself. C'mon. Losing two games – like that. I'm as much of the problem when I want to be part of the solution. To me, that is an absolutely poor job of coaching. If I can just let that go, then I should not be coaching. I'm not sure after watching the last two losses I should be, anyway." …

If this guy can crack the whip on himself like he cracks it on everyone else, he's alright in my book.

I'm a little tired of this act - he's been doing it since New York. It's one thing to say "I suck," and it's another to self-reflect and try to change things.

When JVG does this, it comes across to me that it's a simple ploy to defuse criticism from others. Reverse psychology.

I still have not forgotten how, the summer of his hiring, he and those in his circle insisted up and down that he wouldn't impose his system (post-focused, slow down grinding) on players but that he would adapt his system to the strengths of those on the roster. Whatever.

I'm sure those people who paid for "Insider" information appreciate the re-hashing of quotes from the Houston Chronicle. :)

Perhaps the "I hate Van Gundy club" has a new member?

I agree. He's alright. But, if the problems don't get corrected by mid-season I don't care how many times he degrades himself. The fourth quarter rotations are just horrible. We BARELY beat the clippers (in OT), and BARELY hung on to beat the Blazers -- and in both those games we had double-digit leads going into the fourth.

I guess we did win those two. But, obviously JVG needs to come up with a strategy of how to put teams away.

    What a crock of crap.

Ok, so he is the problem...good for him, now that he KNOWS that he is the problem will he adjust the way he coaches?

If he does, then I will give him credit, if he is just saying it, and doesn't adjust to having an offense that is more suited to the current team, then I call BS.

That's not even in question - he self-flagellated himself out of the league in his first stint in NY by burning himself out and blaming himself, rightly or wrongly, for the Knicks woes, leaving them high and dry. If anything, that's one of the things that makes me leery about him.

It is getting tiring, but people are eating it up. The guys at 610AM just loves him, calling him "refreshing". Toilet water is probably more refreshing.

I don't hate the guy, but this "act" he puts up is really annoying.

You will never find perfection in any human being. The best you can hope for is self-correction. If you can see and address your failures, nothing is certain, but everything is possible.

Beating up on himself does not mean JVG will fix everything. But it does mean we're not in the worst-case scenario: a guy in charge who doesn't even see or admit his failures.

Let's hope JVG is self-correcting. If he proves not to be, nobody on this board will have to tell Les Alexander to fire him.

I totally agree. The problem with his statements, until now, is that I don't get the feeling that he understood exactly what's wrong with his coaching, and the way to correct it.
