I've been listening to the radio and watching the news. Because of Ron Artest, three great Houston legends get the media spotlight again. Barkley - ESPN interviews Barkley because of his spitting incident and throwing that dude out the window etc Rudy T -they mention the Kermit Washington thing. Also the blindside by ONeal on that fat kid Vernon Maxwell - how Vernon got only 10 games suspension and how no fans wanted a piece of Vernon Im so happy Vernon got dropped off as worst fan/player event in NBA history. Thanks Ron!
There are 1,110 articles with VERNON MAXWELL and RON ARTEST ! Check out Bill Simmons of ESPN's take on it: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/cowbell/041122 So for the fans who don't know Vernon, you ask: Why didn't the Portland fans bum rush Vernon like the Detroit fans? Answer: Vernon is more gangsta! -- He has a history of paternity suits, drug problems, and waving a gun in a Luby's parking lot. -- He was charged with resisting arrest outside a Houston nightclub called Fat Tuesday's on July 23, 1993. He pleaded no contest, paid a $500 fine and was sentenced to 30 hours' community service. -- He was accused of breaking a beer bottle over the head of fellow basketball player Herbert Anderson at a nightclub on March 9, 1994. -- On Aug. 29, 1995, Maxwell was charged with misdemeanor possession of mar1juana in Houston. He had reportedly been pulled over in his Mercedes-Benz after running a red light. A judge reportedly ordered him to complete drug rehabilitation and submit to regular drug testing, but the judge then imposed a sentence of 90 days in jail, after he failed to meet the rehab requirements. -- In 1995, he took a hiatus due to "personal problems." Two weeks later he confessed that his major problem was lying: "That was just something I made up. I'm on vacation. I'm drinking brews, playing golf, and getting paid!" -- In a locker room incident, Gary Payton picked up a chair and Maxwell went to find a free weight, presumably to use as a weapon. Both men had to be restrained again and were escorted from the locker room separately. -- He was suspended for 10 games without pay and fined $20,000 in 1995 for going into the stands and punching a fan who had been heckling him at a game in Portland. We love you Vernon! Thanks for trying to take out Gary Payton!
ahhhh...my namesake. man, i loved that guy. i hope he pulls out of his problems and finds a better way.
bill simmons is wrong also the first guy artest punch threw a cup in artest face when he was being held.
I was a huge Max fan. He was the best and worst and the same time. Remember him nailing the game winners in that season-opening 14 game win streak? That guy had no fear. He taught Cassell to nail it down with the game on the line. He taught Horry to launch away. Compare with --- Boki. Shoot, damn you!
i had heard before(maybe kenny smith?) that the guy who maxwell punched had said some of the worst things he could have said and i remember thinking it was probably about his daughter. i'd say maxwell was definitely justified.
Vernon - 1 great fighting cause, and a slew of other non-causes (except, maybe...eh he can get a pass on the Payton thing)
Man, thank Ron Ron again for dropping Max down on the list for fan punching incidents. I mean that Detroit thing was so classic, I saw it unfold on TV! 10 days for Max, the ENTIRE SEASON for Ron Ron oh welcome to the Rockets!
