That's my babies, Sissy (left) and Chief (right) The picture was taken May 1, 2004 and they were born April 3. A few weeks later Chief started losing a lot weight and felt really cold. She didn't run around and play with her sister like she use to. She would just find a spot, lay down and look around with this sad look on her face. We took her to the Vet and she stayed there for a few days. They did some blood test checking her for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). They came up negative and the Doc gave her some antibiotics and kept her over night. We brought her back home and she slowly started gaining weight. She started playing with her sister again. It looked like maybe she just had some nasty little virus before and everything was fine now. Well a little over a month later I walk through my living room and I noticed Chief laying under the sofa with just her head sticking out. I called her, "Chief, what are you doing" and she didn't move her head or eyes. I reached down to grab her to see if she was okay. I pulled her out and she was still alive but her back legs were completely limp and she had messed all over her legs and tail. Took her to the Vet and they did some more blood test, x-rays thinking maybe she had some kind of trauma to spinal cord. The Doctor wasn't sure what was wrong with her. Well, I got the call today and she has an enlarged heart. It's cutting off the circulation to her legs. The doctor says her back legs are starting to turn blue and that she won't be able to live even with medication...........We have to put her to sleep tonight. The Vet said she is still purring. Bye Chief
Very sorry to hear that, Blatz. These threads always break my heart. I'll feed my cat Weezer some milk tonight in Chief's name. +
So sorry to hear that Blatz. We've lost two of ours within a span of 3 weeks including one last weekend that happened completely out of the blue. Man, it so sucks when that stuff happens.
Damn...how did you lose your cats? I know you had a thread about one of them a few weeks ago but I don't recall one on the latest. I'm not trying to detract from the loss of Chief but, since we are grieving anyway in this thread, I would like to know. Sorry to hear it.
I posted about the first one. She had been sick for a long time. The last one was completely sudden and out of the blue. He had been seeming a little under the weather but it seemed like an upper respiratory thing he got every year. I found him under the bed barely able to breathe and it turned out he had a serious heart attack. We got him to the animal ER in the middle of the night, but he passed away while he was there. That was a serious shock. He had never been sick in his life other than the occassional cold most of our cats get in the winter.
Im sorry to hear the news. You cat has the same name as my dog so it kind of hits home a bit. RIP Chief. +
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and sorry to hear about your losses too Jeff. It's a sad day and this rain is not helping
I'm sorry to hear about that, Blatz. It sounds like you gave her a good, caring home. Your compassion for the lil guy warms my heart. Good luck...
This may sound dumb but is it true that if you die alone in your house and nobody finds out, your cat will begin to feast on you when it runs out of food?
