I seriously can not believe what I just heard this morning.

He was talking about next year's lineup...and talking about bringing up the young guys and he said (paraphrased):

"Do you want Kent back? I do...because you don't know how these young guys will perform. Guy like Burke and Lane...I mean, you put these guys in there, and who knows if they'll do any better than the veterans that have been there."

Rich, are you serious??? You're the man who wanted Kent benched halfway through the season!! How does this man have a job in this industry...seriously?? I guess being a sports editorialist is a lot like being a weatherman.

    Where have you been MadMax?

Dick Justice has been on the "keep Kent" bandwagon since September.

That is greatness. He wanted to bench Kent in the middle of a 20 something game hit streak in favor of Burke and have Taveras skip AAA and be promoted straight to the big leagues. If the 180 that Justice did during the season doesn't prove to all chronicle readers that he's a no talent hack, nothing will.

i know...but this was funny because he was actually questioning the very reasoning by which he said that kent should have been benched. this wasn't just a 180 on Kent...it was a 180 on his own reasoning. quite humorous.

and kevwun just reminded me...tavares was another guy he questioned today..."we just don't know how he would perform and whether or not he'll be any better than what we already have."

Richard Justice is good fro comic relief these days; no serious fan takes him seriously anymore.

What is the next thing he will say? Trade Lance Berkman for Sammy? I won't rule it out but I will laugh when he says it though.

About the only thing Justice is good for is his anectdotes. The guy has been around sports a while and he seems to have this vast wellspring of stories and odd little facts about all different kinds of players. If they can ever get him off his own opinion about current sports and get him to regale the listeners with stories from the old days, it is a good segment.

Doesn't this go both ways? Aren't we also unsure just how Kent and Biggio(I'm assuming that's who he thinks Lane might replace) would perform next year? Kent has been doing some serious slipping in performance lately, and isn't the most injury-free guy around. It's just as much a risk to invest $10+ mil over two years on this guy than it is to bring up Burke and use the money elsewhere.

more than that...he changed his own line of thinking.

look..when you're seriously outspoken...and you're the appointed expert...and you miss like this and then do a 180 on your own reasoning process...then people aren't likely to take your opinions seriously the next time.

i'm all for changing your mind...that's cool and the gang. in fact, that's healthy and valuable.

Didn't he also say that the Yankees will not bid any higher than $13M a year for Beltran?

Solid point Raven. I must confess I enjoy that part of his takes.

    DD,
You are right, there is nothing wrong changing his mind but the problem is that he changes his mind waay too frequently. Reminds me of someone I know.
