His percentages aren’t good , but he can handle the rock and get players in proper positions on offense . He is averaging 21 minutes a game, so he wouldn’t be playing huge minutes .

    yay or nay

the Rockets do not have the shooters or floor spacers to be giving another total non-shooter rotation minutes

we’re already giving non-scorers like DFS minutes too…Lonzo would just be another one added to the mix for Ime to play

    Lonzo is a terrible player

    Can't shoot.

We already have enough non shooters.

    Can't play another one.

Just convert JD and be done with it - run Reed as the point man the rest of the year.

And I don't mean Reed tossing it to KD and standing in the corner but actually running the offense.

Lonzo could be of use but he also doesn't move the needle enough to be worth potentially going into the 2nd cap(he would put us over). Being in the 2nd cap is punitive after a few years and with Amen and Reed extensions around the corner I have a hard time thinking we are going to start that timer on that 2nd cap clock for a team who has a very very slim chance anyway as presently constructed.

It would be another conversation if Lonzo was really good - but he is just not available enough to make the risk worth it and even when he is available, his play can be fairly mediocre while he is getting himself back into NBA shape. Like the guy - but hard pass.

He would never put us over the 2nd appron this year…because it’s literally impossible, the contract wouldn’t be allowed, we are hard capped. We can sign him for the veteran’s minimum though, and remain below the appron (his salary is prorrated)

No one can replace Franchise Fred™. It’s just not our year.

ahhh - thanks, I assumed it would be a vet min thing but I didn't know they counted it as prorated for tax counting purposes. The full vet min would have put us into the 2nd cap but a prorated number is a different thing.....I think the point is still the same though - we aren't "one Lonzo Ball" away from anything. If he could shoot it might be a bit different but Lonzo/Amen/Sengun is a lineup easily exploited in the playoffs.

It's interesting how Lonzo's injury seems to have killed his jump shot. He started out as poor shooter, became a pretty good one, and now he sucks again. Hard to say whether that's a permanent decline or not.

But yeah, as long as he's not making three pointers, it's hard to see him helping this team in any meaningful way. Amen is better than he is at just about everything else.

I do hope that VanVleet is making strides and will be able to return after the all-star break, and well before this season finishes.

if VanVleet can at least play 3 weeks of regular season games, he should be ready for the playoffs.

Cavs picked Lonzo from Chicago last summer, the same reason folks are looking at him right now. Cavs let him go because Lonzo wasn't good enough for the limited backup guard role.

I don't think Lonzo's production will better than what we're already have in Reed, Josh, or Holiday. Just convert JD from a two-way to an active roster spot.

The problem is, and I'm sure you know this .... It's that there just isn't anyone on the roster with the point guard skillset.

Fred is entirely replaceable and upgradable, but that player has to come with a specific skillset - the ability to get the team into its offensive sets, execute those plays, distribute the ball, defend and ..... shoot - at the rim and from distance.

under 38% from 2 and 34.5 from 3 last season.

he wasn't shooting well last year at all.

I don't really mind signing Lonzo but a 5 man non shooter lineup would be hilarious

    Lonzo
    Amen
    Tate
    Sengun
    Clint

Believe it or not, his 3pt% last season was almost identical to FVV's, our most important player ;). He shot 42% in the season when he went down.

His 3pt% this season so far is the lowest in his career, even worse than his terrible rookie season. So it's hard to say whether this year's shooting is just a fluke dip or his injury really messed up his shooting.

To me, Lonzo's biggest concern may not be his shooting but his health. Is he going to be able to move well enough to play at the NBA level? The bad experience in DFS kind of give Rockets fans pause.

If Lonzo could run an offense and make it better he'd still be in Cleveland.

im gonna wait and see what happens this summer. But we can’t depend on old injured plsyers. Our success for next yr cannot depend on Fred, Steveo or DFS. Cannot depend on old guys coming off surgery. None of them are allowed to be single points of failure or Stone should be fired. Let’s hope they clean it up this summer. I’ve written off this season…and clearly the front office has too.
