I've seen this in two or three places. What have y'all heard?

I do not see it happening without a trade.

    1) They added too many back end rotation options to need him or even have a place for him on the roster.

    2) There is no longer money under the CBT to fit him.

Now Jim Crane can choose to sign him which may happen, but he no longer fits on this team.

If Crane were to bring him back, I would expect Arrighetti or Blubaugh (maybe both) traded to open innings and a roster spot for him, hopefully bringing back a guy like Nootbar or another good lefty OF. Wallner?

I would then expect Walker or Sanchez traded in a salary dump move to get back under the CBT, depending on how much JV signed for.

Goldschmidt made $12.5M last year and just signed for $4M so maybe JV signs a tiny deal just to come back

Duct tape Arrighetti to Walker in a salary dump trade, opens up innings and salary. Adding JV but we lose our sixth (or better) best bat in an offense that isnt a juggernaut. That is a net downgrade, infield “logjam” not withstanding.

I’m against owing a top 6 bat unless we get an equivalent impact bat back into the lineup. Last years injury riddled lineups with auto outs from 6-9 or sometimes 5-9 was a damn hard watch.

Crane is waiting for someone to sign him so he can force Brown to trade Neyens and Alvarez for him at the deadline to save a few million

I had hoped this would happen for about ten years. But I don't know if the rumors are just old wishes like mine or something substantial. I imagined him reaching 300 wins with the Astros after a modification of his pitching style. He always seemed to be a pitcher as well as a thrower.

Houston had pitching. I like Verlander but he doesn't help us

You'd think he'd be jumping to sign somewhere . . . he'd be risking a few starts if he doesn't sign quick. And missing starts will virtually eliminate his chances of getting close on wins (which I think are almost zero anyway).

I wanted him back here if it made sense, but closing out in Detroit makes perfect sense, and good luck to him. The only real negative from Houston POV is it increases the likelihood he goes into the HOF as a Tiger. Funny how Verlander is both older, and has a couple more seasons than the "clearly washed up" fictional Billy Chapel in "For the Love of the Game". A Perfecto to close out the career against the Pirates, Nationals or White Sox isn't quite as big as against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium ;)

If Detroit gets some health and the best of their free agent signings, they could end up with a premiere pitching staff.

It probabiy too much to ask, but I really am rooting for him to get to 300 wins. He would almost certainly to be the last pitcher ever to do it (unless they end up changing the criteria for assigning a win). He needs 34 wins, and with a health season he’d project to 10-12 wins this year on a good team like the Tigers, so he’d need 3 years like that to get to 300. A very tall order but would be awesome if he could do it. He got a tough break losing a year to injury then being bad for his last year in Houston and getting shafted on wins with the giants.

    Got that Bobby Bonilla deal

1 year 13 mill. He gets 2 mill this year and the rest of the contract is deferred starting in 2030.

Hinch and Verlander reunited. He's playing the Charlie Morton role considering who else is in that rotation.

Wow, smart move for both sides, he has plenty of $$ so why not defer some until you retire. I would have loved to have JV back, IMO he is a top 5 All Time pitcher for the Stros, but its awesome he is back with the Tigers.................the Tigers "could" have an elite pitching line up BUT you don't know if JV will be hurt or effective 100% of the time and which "Framber" shows up, my gut tells me they will both be very good which scares me as an Astros fan
