It’s a classic melting pot move: America takes a great idea, adds some flair (and usually some sugar), and brands it so well that the world forgets its roots.

    Apple pie - England
    Cowboys - Mexico
    Hot dogs - Germany
    Mac/cheese - Italy
    Baseball - England
    Ketchup - China
    Fries - Belgium

    Rock 'n' Roll
    • The Myth: Invented in the 1950s by rebellious white teenagers with electric guitars.
    • The Truth: It is the "electrification" of the African-American experience. * Structure: Borrowed directly from African 12-bar blues and "shouting" Gospel music.
    Country Music
    • The Myth: Purely the sound of the American cowboy or the Southern "hillbilly."
The Truth: A collision of British Isles folk and West African instrumentation.

American Football is perhaps the ultimate example of "Americanizing" a foreign product. While it is the most popular sport in the U.S. today, it didn't start on a gridiron, it started as a messy divorce between two British sports.

For a country built on so many borrowed customs, why are people acting like now any new people coming over will destroy this 2000 year old empire..?

Me. I am American culture. I don’t have to ask what it is.

who the **** cares where ketchup came from?

Baseball does not come from cricket.

I guess your culture (whatever that is) is a racist one.

I was raised to not say such ignorant and racist things to people.

a little bit , generally I know the grass isnt always greener .

    Plus ,
    #1 is fine
#2 is fine if limited a tiny little bit
#3 and 4 are annoying but minor annoyances
#5 is a reason not to move elsewhere
    #6 is entertaining in doses.
#7 is the thread that binds us all together

Another part of American culture is good tasting , cheap food . I do wish there were better regulations and enforcement about the QUALITY of ingredients

A part of American culture that might be unfortunately dying is summer vacations .

    Thanksgiving is American culture

    Consumer Christmas

American culture is awesome. Keep going. Making me feel all proud. Hating America is also part of our culture. Very unique to the rest of the world. So you got that going for you too.

I should clarify saying " why arent you speaking english " has been meme'd into American culture .

I like American culture a fair bit. There are places i like the culture more ( from limited exposure ) , but culture is just one input into quality of life . I do intend to live abroad at some point . The wife and I think its important for our kids to see and be really exposed to other parts of the world .

It is important. You and your wife are in the vast majority for thinking that is important for your children. That is also American culture, exploring and appreciating other cultures. That’s a huge part of who we are.

Also like most Americans, you will be glad to get home.
