Amen got exposed

Amen’s lack of shooting talent is hard to game plan around. All 29 teams know he’s a bricklayer outside of 18 feet.

 

yeah but that won’t solve our spacing issues. Giannis operates at some similar spots as Sengun and both can’t shoot

Amen is far better than Simmons. Simmons wasn’t as explosive off the dribble or athletic. He scored in different ways than Amen.

 

Is this what we’re supposed to be building around.

 

Building around Amen is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I find it strange that no one considers Ausar a max player or a potential all-star, but Amen has been anointed, yet they're basically the same player - Amen just gets more minutes and touches so his counting stats are better.

 

Amen has slightly better handles than Ausar but not enough to make shift difference. Both twins are underwhelming at finishing around the rim for the top level athleticism they have . .


Detroit fans are much harder on Ausar then we are on Amen for finishing.

 

And to be clear, you can't fault either team for making them the picks. But Amen has been awarded a status here that seems undeserved.

 

Detroit has the right idea with Ausar...It helps that they've got Cade, but both of the twins are off ball utility knife type players. I think Amen could maybe grow into a guy that you can put the ball in his hands and run offense through, but I wouldn't try to force it like the Rockets have done.

 

Prime Simmons is better than Amen because he is 6'10 vs 6'7 and had actual playmaking skills. Amen is just a bundle of athleticism and elite defense right now. You can give the ball to Simmons and he will create looks for everyone but Amen cant do that consistently right now the playmakers are Sengun and KD and Amen just floats to the dunker spot.

Amen is amazing. Play him in the front court where he dominated last year. It’s that simple.

 

Maybe. Its close. Simmons couldn’t get to the paint consistently and score. He scored usually from hanging around the rim or wide open lanes. One thing he could do was post up which allowed him to pass out to shooters or find cutters.

 

I agree with a lot of the analysis/drift of this thread. Amen has to be able to hit an outside shot to be on ball. I see Amen as more of a Pippen archetype and not someone who runs an offense.

This offseason, it is crucial for the Rockets to get another playmaking guard. One of the Jones brothers or if one of the top PGs falls in this year’s draft, trade into the draft. Heck, do both.

 

I think that would help, a long with having Fred....

But....I still think having 2 non shooters on thr court for so much time hurts the offense.

I think Ime needs to stagger Amen/Sengun a lot more and play Jabari at the 5 more. Without Fred/Steven we have to change up our style and go to more space and pace. Amen and Sengun are both better with the court spread out.

Its one of my biggest issues with both of them being here long term.

 

People downplaying young Ben Simmons, he had worldly handles, vision and passing ability that only few great one had. Nobody second guessed him as max contract player and potential 1 or 2 in championship team. Amen should be $25 mil per year like fellow defensive type of players but I’m sure half of the league will throw max contract at Amen if we don’t give him

 

The real problem is Amen won’t shoot. It doesn’t matter if he missed he has to shoot it. Sengun will at least take the open shot. It’s more of an issue with Amen cus he seems scared to shoot and that’s not a good sign.

 

It is not Amen that got exposed it’s the Rockets organization playing him out of position. He is STILL one of the most athletic players in the league. With proper coaching / systems Amen is more than capable of being successful almost generational type of talent. DO NOT give up on Amen make changes to use his talents and hide his flaws. — management of players.

 

Very true, at least Sengun shoots early in the clock when he is open thus 2nd chance opportunity but when Amen is open he waste 7 seconds to reset the play to find Sengun or KD thus end up in even worse shots. He should just take it to the rim or shoot the middy

 

Amen is the perfect Pippen. But he has to knock down a 3 on occasions like quiten did.

 

He's got to go while he still has good trade value. Once teams figure out how much of a liability he is offensively, it's over.

And no, playing him as a PF or getting a better coach won't solve this issue. He was ok last year because teams weren't game planning for us the way they have been doing lately.

It's just so obvious to anyone watching the games, you can't have a guard or a forward without a shot on today's NBA.

I bet we can still get a great player or a haul of picks for him this offseason, but front offices will soon catch up with what's happening and it's going to be too late.
