I said it long ago if Sengün, Amen, Reed and formerly Cam and JG cannot make Fred, Kevin, Dillon at least a little expendable then the Contention is all fake.

Might as well brace for another rebuild soon.

The energy was all wrong and despite the fact that none of them got traded they played like they had. I think Stones negative words at the press conference destroyed the ambition in the whole crew.

 

As I tell my kids, it's 100% about attitude. These guys don't seem to believe in what they are doing anymore and seem to be mentally weak.

The Rockets aren’t operating in a three-year window. If they were, they would have been an aggressive trade deadline buyer.

Also, the rebuild wouldn’t be any brighter if Durant weren’t here this season. It would just expose the flaws within the Rockets’ young core even more. Alperen Sengun is in his fifth season and still doesn’t have a reliable perimeter shot. Amen Thompson is in his third season, and he still can’t shoot outside the paint other than free throws. In his fourth season, Jabari Smith Jr. is a good role player with an erratic three-point shot who doesn’t have the temperament to take over games consistently.

The only player from the young core that is significantly better is Tari Eason because he has worked hard to improve his three-point shooting to nearly 50% this season. However, he still can’t shake the injury bug.

When players are in their third season or later, they usually are close to what they will be for their careers by that point. Considering the lack of shooting progression from Sengun and Thompson, and the inability of Smith Jr. to improve his dribbling skills or be anything more than a 3-and-D stretch power forward or center, that’s a big concern.

And to add to this point, it's not like these guys are being coddled to make mistakes and brush it off like they were with Silas. These guys are treated the way Popovich would treat you if he were coaching. That said, they are all still pretty young and I don't think Sengun, Smith, Amen and Tari have reached their ceiling but I'd say they're about 80-85% there.
