many Chicago residents, aldermen, and business groups are unhappy or concerned about Mayor Brandon Johnson’s roughly $600 million+ tax proposal (which has included things like the corporate “head tax” and other tax increases) — and some of the ways people argue it could negatively affect them: ( this tax plan was aimed in large part towards supporting "migrants" - but when the rubber meets the road, who's willing to pay the bill? )

This new appeal of leftists to embrace illegal immigration may not have the support that they think it does even in a Democratic stronghold city, such as Chicago, where this spending plan certainly failed....

Why This Matters to Everyday People

Higher taxes can affect disposable income — less money for families.

Business costs may rise — which critics argue can slow hiring or investment.

Property taxes and other fees already feel burdensome for many.

Political frustration — many residents feel their voices aren’t reflected in the plan.

    What’s Happening Politically

Because of these concerns, the City Council Finance Committee rejected the tax package — signaling broad opposition inside City Hall as well as among residents and business groups.
