So the board is pissed when Coby white and Conley are discussed in trade talks and then pissed again when they are no longer available lol.
a full day to go and as of now Giannis is still a Buck. I don't expect the Rockets to make a huge move but I do expect the front office to be actively trying to improve. The cap situation makes it incredibly hard. Trading Jalen and Dillon instead of FVV (pre option declined) and Jabari (pre extension) for KD was a mistake. Signing DFS when the Lakers said he was toast was seemingly a mistake. Signing Capela and hard capping the team was a mistake. These are self inflicted wounds but really do limit what can change. With every move ask yourself if the trade gives the Rockets a punchers shot at winning the west. I don't see any trade that doesn't involve Giannis doing that and because of Jabari's PPP and Fred's veto, it makes it where Sengun most likely has to go out in any trade for a superstar (vs a pick centric trade like Utah landing JJJ). A Sengun based package would easily trump everyone else's Giannis mid-season offer barring Cleveland offering Mobley and barring Milwaukee preferring Mobley over Sengun, so if they want to pull that lever they could. Is trading Sengun a good idea? I don't know. Is trading for Giannis on a bum calf ideal? I don't think so if its as bad as it seems. Its a tough conundrum. Even with KD playing at this level, this Rockets team is not a contender nor is it very well constructed. The depth sucks and the two young stars can't shoot a three. Jabari being this mediocre, Reed absolutely getting targeted against the Spurs, and Tari being unable to stay healthy are all concerns. If the Rockets can get value for Jabari based on upside and age even with this PPP, I hope they go for it.
I don't think Coby White would have been the homerun everyone thinks it would have been? I don't know, I think sometimes fans want SOMETHING to be done but sometimes the best longterm move is to...do nothing. It's hard to grade trades based on what we do not know either, we have no idea what they asked for Coby, it could be more than what was reported, could be less, so I'm not going to lose sleep on it. I try to just judge trades actually completed. If all the Rockets do is pick up players on the buyout market or make smaller deals I honestly wouldn't blame them. I know we're all running around with our hair on fire but they are literally 1.5 game back from 2nd place, so I would not expect them to make moves like a team that is desperate to make moves. They are probably thinking a vet big or PG on the cheap is better than radically changing the team which Coby would have required.
I don’t see the Bulls buying out Sexton. He either gets rerouted by tomorrow’s deadline or takes White’s role in the Bulls rotation for the rest of the year.
It's almost as though god is making it a point to trade SO MANY point guards for cheap that it would be laughable for the front office to come out and say they couldn't find one for a decent price.
It's not true that teams overpay for players? That Jordan Poole contract still gives me nightmares, 4 years, $128 million... Wow Then there's the infamous Kemba Walker, 4 years, $140 million in 2021, then Gordon Hayward to Charlotte, 4 years, $120 million in 2019... Take a fine tooth comb to every roster and you'll find at least one player that their GM regrets giving his contract to, including our own. So, people that say Coby White absolutely won't make $30 million a year next are just simply speculating. Look at some of the current NBA players making $30 million a year: McCollum Porzingis Dejonte Murray Herro Poole Jerami Grant Hartenstein Barf...
