I do think I am in the minority right now of fans who still like JVG. I think he is a good DEFENSIVE head coach. I believe that he needs to hire an offensive coordinator. Let JVG handle the day-to-day duties of being the head coach and be the defensive leader. Let's hire someone to handle the offense.

I love watching the defensive intensity but cannot stand to watch us once the ball gets past midcourt. It's embarrasing. Don't tell me we don't have team speed. We have some guys that can get up and down the court. What we don't have is 4 sharp shooters on the court to hit all of the 3's we jack up because there is only 1 second left on the shot clock.

Just imagine our current defense with a 1980's Loyola Marymount offense. We could win games 130-75.

This message is purely hypothetical and any attempt to take it seriously should cause you brain cancer.

I posted this in another thread. JVG's defense is based on what the offense does. Its not that JVG is incapable of running a more up-tempo team, he just doesn't want to.

His defense all depends on using the clock on the offensive end.

I'm for this! We could pull out the ole' run and shut offense. Just imagine. Yao do the ernest givens electric slide after every dunk. Mcgrady running the fast break like Haywood Jeffries. Jim Jackson slicing across the middle like Drew Hill. Jeff Van Gundy punching the offensive coordinator in the jaw like Buddy Ryan. Great idea man.

Seems like the only play in Van Gundy's offensive playbook is "Stagger Lee."

They don't do coordinators in basketball. See rule: Too may cooks in the kitchen.

On a serious note, I don't think it would hurt that a defensive minded head coach has an offensive minded assistant.

Somebody just tall enough for JVG to wrap around the ankles.

I think Yao would be dead after the first quarter if we tried that... :p

    Thank you, Captain Obvious.

I do think having an offensive minded assistant could only help. Someone to at least offer up ideas of what might work a little better with the current squad. All there is right now is JVG cronies. These games have been nothing short of painful to watch on the offensive end.

Ask yourself this. Do you think JVG would accept the idea of "help" and even if they made JVG have one, he wouldn't listen to him.

All it says to him is "You need help." And nobody wants to hear it.

Van Gundy strikes me as so "hands on" that he wants to do everything himself. He will resist help on offense. I do not know what his assistants do or why he has them.......

Anal retentive- "do it exactly this way"
