    The very definition of gaslighting.

The Reed hype doesn’t make any sense to me. Most of us have watched McGrady, Yao, Harden on a nightly basis. Others Hakeem and Drex. Hall of Famers. We should know what greatness looks like. What a star looks like.

But no. The small, poor defender, streaky shooter who struggles to get by his man is the next big thing. The one we need to build around.

SHOW ME you are that guy. Earn a starting spot on your own team. Make an all-star team. Then continue to produce like an all-star while opposing defenses are focused solely on you. Through double teams. Make an All-NBA team.

I’m not going to jump on a hype train for a flawed, mid prospect that only shows flashes of “stardom” when he’s hot from 3. Some of us have standards and expectations for a 3rd overall pick.

I think it's mental. Reed looks to be getting good shots and missing them. He shoots about a third of his 3's "open" with the nearest defender within 4-6 feet. He's making 30.9% of these. Wide open threes he's hitting 45.9%.

I'm glad he's continuing to shoot through this but if he doesn't hit soon I don't know what to do. Sitting him will kill his confidence. Telling him not to shoot is probably not good either.

If he is hurt then sit him.

He isnt playing 40 mins he is playing 20 mins. No excuse for a 21 yr old to be fatigued playing 20 mins a night.

Everytime I look at Kon Kneuppel I get so mad we got Reed instead. Reed is ok but the diff between him and KK when they are supposed to be the same archetype is night and day.

I don’t get the Kentucky fascination, literally every player that goes to duke comes out polished with basic fundamentals and smarts

also Kon is 6’6”, he’s got MJ size

I'm a believer in Reed long-term and when he's on, he's my favorite player on this team to watch. This past month? He's played like a timid, possibly injured, human-shaped turd. If this is what things are going to look like long-term, then I wish him well, but get him off my team. No different than how I felt like about Jalen Green. I'm here to watch the team succeed.

But the first 30'ish games of Reed's season? He was absolutely showing all the signs of a special talent who has a significant, immediate impact on winning. If someone disagrees with that assessment or is already writing it off as a fluke, then frankly I question how much I should respect their basketball opinions in general.

I believe he’s playing through injury. Did he forget how to shoot? No. Is he icing his knees on the bench on the regular? Absolutely.

This thread is wierding me out. You have guys here who say that they don’t watch the game and the other players, they only watch Reed????! Why??? That’s creepy AF.
Reed is the next "Nachbar/J.Lin/Jalen Green" thing on this website.

    Report from the Pacers game:

With KD out, this was Reed’s chance to make stuff happen instead of dumping the ball to Mr. Durant. And that’s what he did. Hasn’t recovered his shot, but he played with the aggression and fearlessness some of us have been clamoring for.

I’m as baffled as the rest of you about his slump from long distance. As a couple of you pointed out after the game, the one he hit was the most off-balance and ill-advised. Mostly he was short, but I think a couple of times he was off to the left, which is bad. I’m not gonna freak out about it, because his form looks fine, and I don’t believe a good shooter goes bad for long. His worst habit as a shooter has been hesitating or deferring, and in this game he stopped doing that. He’s just got to maintain that attitude after KD returns.

I didn’t see him hang his head when he missed. A couple of times he popped back open after a miss and rebound, looking for another chance. He doesn’t seem to have gotten psyched out the way Jabari sometimes does.

His assist game looked good. A pocket pass to Sengun, a pick and pop with Jabari, a floater to Clint in the middle when Reed got doubled high off the screen. Plus a couple of heads-up outlets. His driving game is starting to look decent, too. He’s got the foul-line jumper, the wide-angle layup, and a half-baked hesi he worked in at the end of the half. On 2 or 3 possessions you could see him getting a feel for coming off a screen, taking a couple of defenders with him, keeping them just a little off balance, and finding the open man or putting the ball on the rim for a teammate to finish.

Defensively, I was favorably surprised by the video. I’d grade this an A game by his standards. He made a bunch of hustle plays: smothering McConnell’s shots, pestering bigs under the basket, blitzing Siakam and making him lose the ball, darting in from behind for blocks and deflections. But the main thing is that he’s reading the game better. The Pacers hunted him on the first 2 possessions, bringing him up on screens, and both times he forced a turnover. Also he’s doing a better job of reading drives and staying in front so he takes the hit in the chest. In this game he stalled Furphy and Siakam that way. The key is that he has to meet the attacker high, so there’s enough time after the impact for a teammate (Sengun in this case) to come over and block or deter the shot.

So I’m not gonna tear my hair out over his shooting slump. If he keeps playing with this kind of aggression and commitment, he’ll create more high-percentage opportunities. And when his touch comes back, his efficiency will be higher than it was before.
