Bring in Giannis the championship is within grasp. These next 3 years will be the championship window with Durant and Giannis and Amen in his prime. The time is now!
thats why any deal needs to include turner. And if not then we need to acquire a stretch 5. Giannis plays quite differently than Sengun. He plays full court and runs like a guard. He’s a lob threat and passes ball to perimeter better than sengun. He has it all except outside shooting.
With the amount of little to no noise regarding the Rockets being very active in the trade market, it could be that the FO do not see the team as championship or bust/win now mode.
Jabari only counts for $12.35m outgoing salary. He counts for about $24.7m in incoming salary for the team he goes to in a trade. No, not near enough outgoing salary to match Giannis. Even adding FVV and his $25m along with Jabari doesn't get you close.
The problem is you can't go all-in with OKC in the picture and the league's apron system. OKC is going to continue getting better as their payroll expands since they have cheap controllable assets (draft picks) they can use to fill out their roster holes without having access to the MLE. Houston is better off IMO with young stars like Sengun & Thompson on reasonable deals and keeping their picks because they are going to need those picks to provide depth and plug holes dealing with the apron constraints. KD was really the perfect star level trade for the Rockets since he really didn't hamper their financial flexibility with the extension he signed. The number #10 pick was a size-able cost and the type of asset they need to avoid trading in the future.
"No sh*t"? You angry at me for pointing out that you made an obvious statement? We all know what happens if a team's best player gets hurt. Have a take and don't suck.
Giannis is getting old and hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Considering what we’d have to give up, I’m just not interested. You don’t have to chase aging stars to win a championship. In fact, look at the last few championship teams: okc, boston, Denver…all relatively young/prime teams. You have to go back to 21’-22’ to that older GS team that’s been playing with each other forever. Draft and develop good players. Properly evaluate your players. Identify your core. make decisions and augment your roster for fit. Add players for fit. Go to battle and get further in the playoffs every yr until u win. I’m not confident this org is good at evaluating their own players or can build a good roster for fit. They haven’t proven that.
I actually don't want Giannis and Amen on the same team. I think I'd rather have Amen be the center piece of that trade and keep Alp. I love Amen as he's so much fun to watch but you gotta give up something to get something. If they'd take Amen, Tari (or Jabari), filler, and picks. I'd do it.
It gets it close enough that Adams and Capela can fill the rest with a couple of small contracts coming back from the Bucks (Anthony for minimum exception and Jackson for FVV DPE work).
how does that work with Sengun and Giannis clogging up everything? Two bigs who need to drive and can’t shoot more than 12 ft. Then what guards do we have left? Sheppard can’t beat defenders consistently. No shooting guard that can score. That would be a nightmare in my opinion
..and yet this will probably be the 3rd year in a row that their players have outperformed betting and media predictions for wins. The major failing of the organization is that they have not acquired a Top 10 player such that they are forced to try to fit flawed* players into a contender. *flawed in the sense that the players the Rockets have aren't Top 10 players such they all have weaknesses in which the Rockets have to worry about fit and overall talent. I think the Rockets are a very talented team, but it takes time to build a roster that fits without a Top 10 player.
Amen has the same problem, also can't shoot more than 12 ft. If anything, Alp has shown more growth in extending his range than Amen. I could be convinced either way. Basically, the team that usually wins is the team that has the best player on the court. So go get those players and figure out the rest. I'm just not sure about the argument that Giannis needs floor spacers around him and then saying Amen is that dude.
The Rockets winning at a lower pace than their over/under this year despite relying on a 37yr old star playing the 3rd most minutes in the NBA. I wouldn't say they will "probably" outperform their betting odds this year.
Rockets have a spacing issue. Ways to deal with it: 1) Ignore it. 2) Live with it, but just bully through it. 3) Add shooting. 4) Only play 1 non shooter at a time. I'd put Giannis under 2. Rockets would have spacing concerns, but it takes a wall to stop him. He probably helps shooters a lot more than Sengun or Amen. Sengun, other salary, and 1 pick for Giannis woukd probably be limit on what I'd offer. Even then, not sure I would make deal. I'd need medical staff to be happy with Giannis. I'd need a reallly good workup of expectations each season for the next 7. Milwaukee probably needs to find a third team to get picks for Sengun. I'd probably try to get Turner thrown in to add a shooting center. If Amen and Giannis doesn't work, can always trade one or the other.
never said Amen is that dude. I have always said either Amen or Sengun goes or both. The game is about finding the right combinations of players. Amen isn’t ideal but I think it can work since Giannis plays differently than Sengun. He plays like a shooting guard driving relentlessly and full court. Can pass and gets lobs. Makes quicker decisions and more explosive and quicker than Sengun. This opens up our fast break. It opens up the half court for shooters and he and Amen can dominate 1-2 lobs to each other or screen and rolls. Its a different dynamic than sengun Amen. Again not ideal for me but it could work and its no doubt better than the Sengun Amen duo
For some reason, I thought it dropped to 50.5 after the FVV injury. Checking google, I am seeing 52.5. At that number, I'd guess 52 wins as only 4 games left vs SA, OKC, and Denver. Even with injuries, I expect the Rockets will win games at a higher rate once tanking season starts. So I was wrong, though overall, the last three seasons have been very good, so I would not question the Rocket ability to judge their own players even though my memory is suspect.
The problem is we got a bunch of one level scorers. Amen and sengun can only score in the paint and are bad from midrange and three point range. Reed can only shoot 3s inconsistently and he can’t finish strong at the rim. Durant is the only three level scorer on the team. They don’t fit well together.
I never thought about it that way. The Alp and Amen duo doesn't let either of them shine at their respective best. Hmmm. That said, Udoka has started running PnR w/ Amen and Alp and it worked a few times. On second consideration, Amen is still on a rookie contract, you don't trade him right now cause you won't get fair value back.
No to the picks. Also, well need a PG coming back as we would lose the playmaker from Sengun. Anyways, FVV can't be traded this year so that's a moot point.
