There is some bad luck here. But a lot of these deals also have silver linings. none of them to me are that damning.
I am of the belief that atoms has a negative trade value, but not by much. he should come back sturdy next year and able to provide what he has provided.

to be clear, I am not advocating for that. I believe we need to trade his salary. And yes, we might come out of pocket a little bit but we’re talking about $13 million and a guy that can be a veteran influence next year.

Much of the same can be said about Van Vleet. if they are keeping him, it is my assumption that they are pretty positive. He will be back in some capacity forward the beginning of April. Becauseof the way he plays the game,I could see him being effective immediately. I’ll be at the minutes probably will be limited and there will probably be a slightly elevated risk of re-injury. I also wonder if Fred would give the team a value as far as extending after next season. Which I’m gonna go out on a limb and think that he would.

so basically, by keeping him we may get a great deal as he ages and have him be the perfect back up point guard.

so, these guys still have value to us and they have value to any teams that acquire them. my specific preference would be to trade both. especially Adams.

Smith, Eason or even Thompson can be the center in certain lineups and against certain opponents.

Capela is OK value at his salary, but we probably can get somebody a little bit better at what we want out of that role for cheaper or maybe even the minimum. I really want any center minutes, not occupied by Sengun to be played by somebody that can shoot. Or a smallish five that can penetrate. have the law option on the end of the bench for defensive purposes as needed.

Shifting Smith to more of a 4/5 id the way with our roster in general.

Trade Capela/Adams/FVV/Filler and a single first to bring in a player in the $48-53 million range and then bring in a very cheap center.

    Or Capela/Adams/Filler for someone(s) around 25.

Just like with Fred. He has no offensive chops so he has to run the only person on the team who does into the ground to cover that up.

I wish this would motivate the Rockets to go in a different direction and trade for a backup center who can stretch the floor. But in reality they will trade for an elephant like Andre Drummond.

Queue desperation trade that puts the team into purgatory for the next half a decade.

i think Adams may still have some slight positive value because his contract is cheap relative to what he provides. But regardless I don’t think it will be hard to get off that contract.

I never wanted us to sign Clint in the first place, and I agree with you; I’d rather have Bari get this minutes at the 5 because he’s basically become a liability as a spacing 4 that can’t space…And since we can’t really trade him until the offseason.

As far as Fred I’m happy keeping him next season (I don’t think the org trades him) for the remaining $25 mil on his deal and moving on after. I don’t want to extend any more old, injury-prone players. The Fred and Steveo injuries weren’t hard to forecast.

I think DFS will be well worth his contract by season’s end, so I’m fine keeping him. I can see DFS and Tari being our best role players over the next couple of seasons.

Mainly I’d like to get off of both Steveo and Clint’s money, as well as trade Bari in the offseason. And then let Fred expire after next season.

Called it as soon as his arms were shaking on the ground, this was a serious one.

    That's a shame.

It is not like this franchise allowed itself to depend on the health of Ralph, Yao, and Tracy

Clint is underrated. He’s not as good on off reb as Adams but he is still very capable. He gives this team a different look. He can get blocks from weakside help and can still defend the paint and run out to the perimeter. Also still a lob threat off high screen.

At least it happened before the trade deadline and we have an opportunity to evaluate our options.

Depending on aging vets as irreplaceable is a fools errand. Shout outs to Steve-O and speedy recovery but this team needs to move on from him and FVV (and Tari and DFS and anyone who is old or injury prone not named Durant).

Drummond is shooting 36% from three this season, so Stone isn’t interested.
